Well unfortunately just about any other wood is also going to be pretty hard on your BH's.

Last year my bud and I got a heck of a deal on a couple of 3'x3' King BH targets that were seconds or blems, if you want to call them that. THey have held up great to our shooting and even with a bit of touch up, they were still worth the price we paid for them.
Give them a ring and ask if they have anything like that nowadays, if they do you won't be sorry. They make excellent targets.
