It was miss...But check this out!
Last night, about 20 minutes before dark, I had a 3.5 year old 8 point walk out about 50 yards in front of me, and he started up the hill away from me. No worries with this guy, wasn't gonna shoot him anyway. Then a nice 6 point, slightly wider, but only about 2.5 years old walked out. He walked within about 40 yards and stopped to browse. Then, I see an old, mature buck appear behind him, and he stands broadside, slightly quartered away about 45 yards away, or at least I thought. I could not raise my rangefinder, so I drew my Athens Buck Commander while he was looking away from me. I let an arrow fly, only to see it pass over his back about 4 inches high. Maybe he ducked, maybe I should have went with the 40 yard pin. Either way, it was a miss, but I heard this tremendous "thump" behind him...My arrow hit a hybrid poplar tree, tipped with a Grim Reaper Razortip, 100 grain broadhead....this was the result. (sorry for the poor pic quality). By the way, this tree was nearly 55 yards away.
