Sorry I must have missed your post and have not been on for awhile guess I need to check my updates!
Actually the setups are very similar only difference would be in the rest and tuning the bows of course. With recurves I suggest staying in the 45-55# range to spine properly with the standard fiberglass arrows most use. With a compound, anything in the 40-50# range will take anything you want to shoot. I shoot low 50's on my recurves and 40 or 50# on my bowfishing compounds and have shot everything swimming including big alligators with those setups. In addition to the rest you will need your reel system, either a spincast with reel seat or a retriever style reel and arrow and line and you are set.
Springtime and the spawn is a great time to do it and you can shoot plenty of fish off the banks or from a boat, outside of that we do most of our bowfishing at night and shoot fish year round. Good luck and have fun!
