Hope you don't mind me linking to ArcheryTalk. The ArrowDS site doesn't have them yet.....
These guys make the Atom and Guillotine heads. I've read and talked to the owner a few times about the Atom heads. One things for sure, he whole heartedly believes in his products and knows the science behind them. Whether the real world follows the science........that's another thread...... His new head is called the Radian. It LOOKS alot like the Reign but the blades don't pivot, rather they compress like leaf springs..... Interesting design. I may be game. Question,
How can he claim this is a cut on contact broad head? Or am I reading the description wrong? Not fixed bladed, not mechanical. It cuts on contact, spanning 1.5 inches via to independantly compressible .039 inch thick super strong and super sharp blades. Goes thru or past bone via minimizing deflection, compressed blade cutting width capability significantly enhancing achievement of compelete penetration.

Gerhard.....I don' think he is describing the head as a cut on contact I think him saying it "cut's" on contact is his way of saying there is enough room in between the blades and the trocar tip to allow the head to penetrate the flesh before the blades come into play, reducing the chance for deflection. I think it's just a word confusion. I may be totally wrong but...it is not my idea of a COC head...unless that trocar is sharpened.....hmm

Just signed up and thanks for having me.
With respect to "Cut on Contact"...Please have a close up look at the tip on the Radian photo attached....click it to open it to a larger image. This one is titanium tipped, 100 grain. Notice the angle created by the flutes, thier radius and overlapping each other provide a tip accuracy of one ten thousandths of an inch accurate with four very sharp cutting edges radiating away from the tip. Providing an immediate "Cut on Contact" exactly the same as a more traditional cut to the tip two bladed design. I attempted to match as closely as possible that magnitude of KE required of a more traditional two bladed/cut to the tip design for penetration of animal substance densities. Interesting design. I think this definitely qualifies as a BH for some of the testing that goes on here. BTW, welcome aboard.
Just a suggestion as I think it would go a long way, put a post up in the Welcome to Broadheadtalk forum with a brief description of you. Again, welcome to the group. David |
