    Default Loading deer on atv

If you are by yourself, How do you get a big deer on the rack by yourself? I liked to killed myself several times trying to do this. There has got to be an easier way. I usually pull it up starting at the foot step on the atv and end up standing on the rack inching it along and tying it off then re-grip and pull again till its up.
Someone once told me of a way they do it with a small rope and it involved hoisting it up a tree, but it was a long time ago an I can't remember. Its not often I'm stuck out there by myself with a kill, but it does happen. Gutting it would help but you can't do that everywhere.

If I can't get the deer on the rack I just tie a rope to it and drag it to the truck. I have backed the 4 wheeler into a small ditch or up to a hillside where the backend is lower and easier to load the deer on. I know you can't do that everywhere but it is helpful when you are able to do it that way.

Good tip. There are many stumps and big logs down that I can do that with as well.. Hurricane turned our hardwoods into a jungle.

No ATVs are allowed where I hunt so I use my deer cart, or if I don't think it's too far a walk I'll just drag it.

Depends on where you are I believe. Usually you won't want to sit there and bone them out. You will be out of blood by the time you finish. Mosquitoes will wear you out.

I back my atv into the creek or in a deep rut in a logging road then pull the deer onto the back rack.
