By now most of you have seen the Browing Serpentines that have been pictured on several other threads. Everytime they appear they seem to generate lots of comments. I have pictured the three basic heads below for reference. From left to right the ABCC numbers are 0298.000, 0299.000, and 0300.000. These were produced around 1971-1973.
However there was another manufacturer that produced this style head in 1957-1958. They were designed, patented, and manufactured by John Santry and called the Ex-Calibre 50 (below left 1957) and later the Ex-Calibre 45 (below right 1958). The ABCC numbers are 0460.000 and 0459.000. The pictures are all scaled the same so you can see how big the Ex-Calibre 50 was. It is about 3 3/16 long. These heads are much rarer than the Sepentines. To see if there are any new collectors reading this, I will give a Browning Serpentine ABCC #0299.000 (middle picture in the top row) to the first five replys to this who join the ABCC or have joined recently and reply to this thread. If you already have one please let another new member add one to his collection |

A one year membership is about half the cost of one Ashby head and lasts all year. You get 4 newsletters and a new Master List every year with your membership. Also when you join you will get a embroidered patch and decal. You also get the membership list each year so you can get in touch with the approx 200 members from around the world.
Like the man selling the Sham Wow says, "It almost sells itself". ![]() Tell you what, since you already have a Serpentine how about if I substitute something else like an ACE or even better a OO3 with your new membership? Last edited by Big Boar; 08-22-2010 at 01:40 PM. |

Thanks this is a great idea! No I do not have the 003! Do I need to send you my address or do you have it from my abcc application?
Hopefully when my collection gets better (duplicates) I can offer a similar giveaway down the line! |

I have your application, so if nothing changed in the last couple of wesks we are good to go. Did you get your new member package? How did you like the newsletter? Next years annual meeting will be at the Pope and Young Museum in Minnesota, so set a few days vacation aside next year and make it to the meeting.
Like your thinking. Standing Bear sent me some heads and he called it something like doing good deeds forward or trading forward, but you get the idea. Last edited by Big Boar; 08-22-2010 at 03:53 PM. |

Yes, I got the masterlist and newsletter last week, It was great there's alot of very good information in there!
I may try to make next years meeting, I can remember (barely) as a kid (I was maybe 5 or 6) the meetings and displays at Clinton, IN when they had the Bonanaza shoot there! Next of my list from the ABCC is to purchase the Id books/guides that are compiled from the newsletters! |

The clubs Best of Broadhead books are great for information and history, but if you want to collect traditional heads and want to get actual size pictures to help you identify the heads, the two books by Wade Phillip's are what you should get before any others. They are not cheap (like $90 for the 1872 to 1972 book with 2350 heads pictured and $40 for the 1972 to 2007 book).
If you are into screw in mechanicals (this is a commerical) I have just recently finished a similar book. |

I am asking $30.00 plus $3.00 shipping to the lower 48. It pictures all but two (could not find any members that actually had them) of the approx 350 screw in mechanicals, plus it has a section compairing similar heads to make it easier to identify them. It took me over three months to put it together, but now we are one step closer to documenting all of the heads out there. We are now trying to see if we can do another book on all of the rest of the screw in heads. This is probably a 1 1/2 to 2 man year project, so we are talking about dividing the work between three of us.

But I think it's really neat that you are offering! Way to go long tall dude!
