Default 1/4" Lafonds Lightning 2 ?

Got this along with some other heads recently and it doesn't seem to fit what is listed in the books. In the Master List the smallest thing listed is a 9/32 (.281") and in the Broadhead ID book the smallest one shown is a Lightning with a ferrule that measures .267".

The head in the picture has a ferrule that measures .259" inside. Compared to the 9/32 head listed on the Master List the size difference between two is almost equal to the difference betweem 5/16" and 11/32"

Anyone else have one that would pass as a 1/4" Lafonds Lightning 2

The small LaFonds and a 11/32 Lightning

Shep....interesting.

I have a Lightning 2 with a ferrule that measures .267", L 2.03", 98 gr., that was in Joe's collection. I have to pull the digital calipers all the way out to the very edge, almost completely out, of the ferrule or I will get a reading of .260" just a tad farther inside the ferrule.

Hmmmm......this one is 1.00" W, .309" OD, .040" thick blade.

Now you've done it, everyone is going to pull heads out and start measuring

Today was perfect for just that. Cool and rainy all day here in Maryland. The boys were busy on the Playstation and mama was watching the Planet of the Apes marathon

The Master List is just a list. Layed out with Microsoft Excel I believe.

Listed for each broadhead is

ABCC# / T / M / #of blades / Const / Ferr / Size / Grains / Manufacturer / Yr. / Desc.

The "T" stands for # of traders and the "M" the head is in your collection

For pictures you will need "The Best of Broadheads" books thru the ABCC, "The Patent and Advertisment Book", one of the on-line albums like the one Bowhunterfrompast has or one of the Wade Phillips books.

Shep -

Judging from the photograph you posted, your supposed 1/4" ID ferrule LaFond's appears to have a ferrule hole that is not really round but rather oval or irregular particularly on the bottom portion.

This may of course just appear to me as an optical illusion and your small head may be perfectly round.

The irregular or oval shape would of course reduce the ID measurement in one direction.

I believe if you read the ABCC Broadhead Master List Guidelines you will discover that heads with oval shaped ferrule holes are not eligible for a separate entry.

Here is a pic of 3 of those "not really round" LaFonds. On the left is a 11/32" and a 5/16" ferr. They all measure under .260.
