Default Stovers

Here are a few heads you don't see very often.

Made by George Stover sometime in the 50's.

Here is 3 of the 4 Stovers

I wish I had extra Stovers but no

I have had them for a while, not sure how many are out there but I haven't seen any floating around.

according to "Broadheads 1871-1971" third edition they all have the rarity >24. In the late 1940's, George E. Stover designed the Stover broadheads and were manufactured for a brief time period, in limited numbers.

I could spin a yarn about how I found them in a quiet little shop somewhere or in a can in a old house but the truth is they were given to me when I first joined the ABCC.

The kindness of that gentleman just blew me away. I couldn't imagine why a man who didn't know me from Adam and lived thousands of miles away could be so giving.

I have been trying my hardest to repay that generousity by passing it on ever since.

Shep
that right there is what makes those heads special in your collection

I have been the recipient of the same generosity many times, it is a humbling experience. I have been fortunate to pay it forward and a few times I have paid back filling a few X's.

Default Thank you

Thanks for a lesson learned.

Other than the one on the right I would have blown right by those other two in a yard sale thinking same ol same ol.

Ignorance is not bliss in this case.

Identifying method?

God Bless

Subtle differences between heads even from different makers is what I think is the biggest challenge when it comes to collecting.

Sure it is hard to come by some broadheads but some extra cash can solve that problem.

When you get heads from companies like Ace and Zwickey it can be extremly difficult to determine just what head you have, even with a book like the Broadhead ID books.

Even after looking over heads I have had for years I'm still not sure it is identified correctly.

Default Gotta keep a sharp eye out

Here is a perfect example of similar heads being hard or near impossible to ID.

This could be mistaken for several Ace heads and there are literally 1000's of Ace heads out there. With a little more sharpening and no books to compare it to it may have ended up in the Ace bag with the others but ......

The head is actually a Herters, one of the first Herters made in the late 50's.

Another hard to find head

Thanks for the reminder, I know one collector who will be looking at his Ace's a little bit closer from now on.

On the side facing the camera it says JAPAN in small letters. It is gone for the most part.

On the other side HERTERS is stamped in small letters running up the ferr. It is in better shape but hitting the ferr. while sharpening has made it harder to read.

Thumbs up

That right there is an amazing find.

Did you get all three at the same time ?

I did not have anything to do with your find. You have been one hard working collector in the past 2 years and your collection surpassed mine a while back.

...... but if you feel it helps here is another seldom seen head. GOOD LUCK !

I had the winning bid on the first Stover, after talking to the seller and finding out he had the other two, I couldn't help myself

Another head from your collection, I think I may have used all my luck on the Stovers.
