Default Interesting broadhead packaging

I find this concept very interesting, selling another manufacturer's broadhead in your packaging. I know this has and still is being practiced. It can be a little confusing

I believe this is a c.1938 Ben Pearson

I'm not positive but I believe its been discovered that these are not Ben Pearson heads. Three were on Ebay, the auction was closed and sold off Ebay within the last year and these may be actually Tru Flite heads. If you own this one pictured it is a very rare head.

I don't have this head, it is a picture saved off ebay. That explains why I don't have the winning bid price listed with this pic.

Thanks for the info.

Chuck -

Perhaps you can explain exactly why as you state, you "believe its been discovered that these heads are not Ben Pearson heads." ...

And perhaps you can also explain exactly why as you say "the auction was closed and sold off eBay within the last year..."

Is there a wolf in sheep's clothing among us who should be exposed?

For a number of years, I have owned two different variations of this head and despite what was published on page 15 of the Jan, 2011 ABCC Newsletter, I have seen no legitimate evidence what so ever that these are not Ben Pearson heads.

These are the two 2x2 Skeleton Ferrule Prototypes with different stampings in my Ben Pearson Display.

Wade -

Is that an arrow stamped in the one on the right ?

Did Pearson make this head for True Flight ?

Rick -

Yes the head on the right has the arrow imprint stamped into the right side of the blade.

The head on the left has "PAT. PENDING" imprint stamped into the blade.

If anyone is interested there is a full page article in the jan 2011 abcc newletter [ not april] about the true flight broadhead. I see no need to explain anything any further.

That's

Here I go worrying about those different stamps again I understand that they are the same but was the one with the arrow made for True Flight or was it just packaged by True Flight

Chuck -

Thanks for that information about "The Saga of the Unknown 71", that has answered a lot of my questions but that rare head still has a lot of mystery behind it.

In addition to the two markings that I have, there is also a third variation, which is not stamped. I have seen this head in person, and made note of all three markings in the last sentence in the center bottom of page B-10 of the Third Edition of "1871-1971".

Because of space limitations, I was unable to show more than one of these heads but probably should have shown a cut out of the arrow imprint stamping above the PAT. PENDING 2x2 in the center of the page.

In the case of this particular head, I believe the different markings are important clues as to the identity of the head.

Rick –

Yes you are correct, there is still a lot of mystery behind these heads. When trying to unravel a mystery from 50 to 75 years ago, it can be very difficult to locate any concrete evidence. Often times the best we can do is gather all the evidence from references at hand, study it at length and attempt to assimilate it with the mind of a detective-lawyer like Perry Mason. Many times different people come to different conclusions when presented the same evidence. That is why juries exist.

Unfortunately, when I put together the last edition of “1871-1971”, I forgot to include one other piece of strong evidence that links Ben Pearson to the 2x2 Skeleton Ferrule. I have had the evidence for years, but have failed to mention it to anyone.

The article in the Jan “Broadhead” is sketchy at best and unfortunately it has several errors as well as inaccurate statements, which many collectors are apparently unaware of at this point.

The date referenced in the article is 1940, however there is no evidence presented in the article that even establishes National Specialties as an archery company nor as a manufacturing company from that date, nor from any other date.

At the 2011 ABCC Annual Meeting, the Broadhead Master List Committee will be presented with additional evidence and the challenge to clear up some of the mystery.
