Default epek xc3

hello fellow hunters,

i have recently purchaced the epec xc3, and so far found them to be a nice looking product. but on a hunt yesterday i had a complete miss .

i dont believe this was any fault of the broadhead, but more so the opperator.
but after retrieving the arrow, i found that the broadhead was deployed and 1 of the blades broken. ok so this happens!!!!! but the small peice of the outer sheild on the broadhead, located below the blade, the bit that stops the blade from over deployment & also forces the blade back to its holding position upon retraction has been brocken out rendering the broadhead useless, good for only spare blades! also i have found that the deployment of the blades fouls and dent the arrow insert.

Is this something any1 else has come across?

Got any pics of the wreckage? Not doubting you just would like to see a pic to maybe get a better idea of what happened.

You must have hit something purty dang hard to have the result that you had. The head is obviously made for animals and not dirt and rocks. Very few times have we heard of a blade breaking in an animal. I am not denying that it has happened but very seldom. I am speaking very general about broadheads when I say that there aren't too many that I would use again after a miss and that is especially true with mechanicals. I would take a mechanical apart and clean it thoroughly before the thought to use it again would be considered. Dirt can become such a factor in the way that a mechanical head functions. In your case with it broken at the blade trigger I realize that it is not just a dirty broadhead that is causing you concern but a broken one. Like I say, I have shot many mechanicals that have not found their mark and have not been worthy of shooting again. Misses are disasterous on heads. ha ha A person is already mad at themselves for the miss and then to top it off, it cost them a bunch of money. Just be glad that you found the arrow and didn't lose an arrow, fletchings, wrap, broadhead and lighted knock. That is when it gets EXPENSIVE!
I do have one question about the blades causing stress on the insert. Did you not include the small steel washer? That washer is to do that very thing in stopping the blades from pounding into the light weight aluminum of the insert and taking the hit. It also makes up the proper weight of the head to get it to 100 grains or 125.
I do appreciate your input as we want to address any and all concerns.
