Default Epek demonstration video for it's durability

There were a few on here asking about the durability of the Epek X-C3. Last year, there were a few issues with it's toughness as far as getting a second chance to shoot it. Depending on the tissue hit or the rock hit on a miss, the head was deemed unusable at times for shooting it again. People asked for more durability and we met the task.
Tell me what you think. Thanx

Do you have pictures before and after the change? I am looking to possibly get some and want to make sure that I get the new design.

What can I look for?

I don't have any pics loaded. Sorry. The new head is more compact than the other with the longer more slender look. If you look at my video of the Archery Elk hunt that I just returned from, you will get a closeup look at the new head. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have been hunting.

No worries on the wait. I will never fault a guy that is out hunting.

A buddy of mine bought a few packs and gave me a couple to try. It looks like they are the old ones. I can't wait to give them a try this weekend. Now, I need to get the deer to cooperate.

Great video and congrats on the elk.

I've lost confidence in this head
I am a bit confused Sinister. You hit the shoulder, killed the deer, found it dead, but all three blades had broken off at the screw that holds it in? I have not seen or heard of that until now if that is what you are saying. I have seen a broken or bent blade here and there. Not very often have I seen it break the screw let alone all three. Am I following you correctly?

Were they the older head or the new improved durability head?

I can only assume they are the older ones, I bought them off of camofire.
Yes they are the older ones that Camo fire did a fire sale on them at a cheap price. They will kill Deer, Elk, or whatever critter you choose but don't shoot them in the shoulder. ha ha. If that head was put throught the vitals, it would have done just fine and killed it deader than dead. The new one will hold up and be much more durable. The new design is for just that, Durability. We didn't realize that people like to test them in shoulders, lumber and concrete walls. We thought that people would want to shoot them in "good" places to kill animals. Once we realized that the above items were in high demand we created the head that would hold up to them.

Out of curiosity, what changed in the design to make them more durable?

It might be hard to understand without looking at them but here I go.......

The old ones are longer and have a cone shape going from the main outer piece up to the chisel point. That cone shape is hollow so we could make weight. When the head hits something VERY hard, it opens like normal but with the force going forward from the speed and weight of the arrow, and the sudden stop of hitting something very hard, it causes the cone shape of the outer piece to jump the set screw or alignment screw and the cone then is forced over the inner piece that is sqaured off at the top. Cone over square tends to add a LOT of force to the back end of the outer piece or shroud. The shroud has small links holding it together in the back that are the triggers for the blades to open. They are located at the bottom of the blade slots. When that great force pushes back and outward because of the cone shape, the shroud breaks at the thin triggers.
We shortened the head to keep within the weights. We had to add some solid metal shelfs to the front instead of cone. Now when the head comes back to open the blades, the outer piece has a flat solid part that smacks the flat solid inner part and it is solid against solid now. They are litterally MANY times stronger.
I need to add that if the older ones break they break after the head is opened. They should still do thier job unless a bad hit is made and then you can't ask any broadhead to do the job when you don't. They definatlely don't always break. In fact it is very seldom if you hit animals where you are supposed to and don't hit rocks and such. I would trust them for any of my hunts. They are doing "fire sales" at epekhunting.com to sell the many packs of old ones. They are very deadly but sometimes are not able to use them again. That doesn't bother me too much as I don't like to use mechanicals again too much anyway.
