Standing Bear will become famous soon enough
Default New Muzzy MX-2 85 grain plus my wife's APA King Cobra = Success !!!!

What a day this was, another successful stalk on a bear, the only awesome thing is, I had the opportunity to witness my wife shooting her first black bear spot and stalk hunt !!!!!

We both woke up early this morning, got our things ready and headed out to a location where I knew the grass had started to grow nicely. As we were driving, all I could do was smile at listening to my wife talking to herself. She was making sufe to go over every step, concentrating on a spot, doing a clean release, following through.....she was pumped !!!!!

About two months ago, my wife and I decided to upgrade her equipment and she choose to go with the new APA King Cobra. I remember asking her if she was sure she wanted to shoot such a low brace height bow and with no hesitation, she said yes. Once the boys at APA sent the bow, it was like if Sylvie had been shooting this bow for years, her arrows were flying nicely and we were both pretty impressed at how her arrows were coming out of the string and on target.

One thing that we do here is practice at ranges from 5 to 60 yards and she always manages to sneak in a arrow tighter to the bullseye than miine, FRUSTRATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL but I have to admit, she has a way to help me achieve a higher sense of confidence with my shooting....all in all a great bowhunting partner.

So, we both look at our watches and it's 08:05 am, " Oh my, honey, there's your bear, can you see him, he just stepped out of the willows, can you see him?", as I turned over to look at my wife, her eyes were opened up real wide and she pointed at it and told me to get ready !!!!! Man, I just smiled and told myself, here we go !!!

The bear was grazing on grass and was at that time approximately 150 yards away from us, Sylvie immediately went to the tree line and started to make her way to the bear. I was telling myself, " Slow down girl !!!", but she was on a mission and believe me she took control of the situation.

100 yards, 80 yards to go and for some reason whe decided to stop and knelted down. I made my way to her and asked her what was wrong, this is what she said, " Listen, I'm getting nervous, I think my heart is going to come out of my chest !!", I just smiled and told her I had the range finder and everything was going to be OK, I then told here, " Go get him".

So very slowly, we closed in on this nice bear. The wind was in our face and the only thing that really made this difficult were the amount of mosquitoes buzzing arount us.

Sylvie stopped up on this small sandy ridge and stopped. AS I made my way to her, she asked me to range the bear, it was broadside and grazing on grass. I took my reading and the bear was 52 yards away. Sylvie zero's her pin at 52 yards and before I could say anything, she was drawn......this seemed to last forever, all I could do was look at the bear, turn my head over and look at my wife with her #50 King Cobra at full draw and then all I seen was a 27.5 inch carbon express Maxima tipped with a Muzzy MX-2 flying through the air and land right behind the bear's shoulder.....WOW!!!!!!And I was sitting there in total amazement.

As I seen my wife put her bow down, all I could see were tears flowing down her cheeks. We both hugged each other and all she could say was., " I did it Daniel, I did it, I did it".

Yes you did Honey and CONGRATULATION !!!!!!!!!! The bear didn't make it 30 yards and piled up, Sylvie nailed a double lung hit.

This bear is not the biggest one we seen over the past couple of weeks but a true trophy indeed.

I must be the proudest husband, hunting partner and friend of this fine, fine bowhunting lady called Sylvie !!

Here she is smiling behind her trophy.

Just to be able to spot and stalk on a bear like that would be awesome....that is truly an awesome hunt and even more so... to be there with your wife as she made an outstanding shot on a really cool hunt....

It may not be the biggest bear but I think you just made a really big memory.........way to go...

Now that's what I call a "trophy hunt". Just doesn't get any better than that! Congrats to you both.

BuckFeverLodge, the message is passed and you managed to add a huge smile on Sylvie's face, priceless. This morning, she wants to take a few minutes to thank everyone for the generosity they have shown her in their comments. What I can say is she is still riding high and is looking forward in getting the meat ready for the freezer.

A little note about this bowhunter, she started shooting a traditional recurve in 1993 and bowhunting in 1994. I still remember her shooting her first wild boar with a 40# Check Mate Hunter recurve, cedar arrow tipped with a Zwickey Eskimo broadhead. And from that day, she has never looked back becoming one of the best shots I have seen. Today, she still remains so humble but here is a little story that will help you understand who she is:

In 1998, I am at Moose camp with 4 of my hunting friends, we are hoping Sylvie will arrive in time to set up and hunt the following morning. Its getting late, we are all getting our gear ready and we hear Sylvie arrive and walk through the camp door.

The following morning, I had my alarm clock set at 05:00 am and as I reached over to shut it off, I couldn't hear anything beside me and assumed Sylvie was still sleeping, I got up, made a fire in the wood stove and light the main camp kitchen lantern. As we all got up, waited around for Sylvie to get up, I found a note on the kitchen table which read, " Sorry about leaving early guys, I thought I would get a head start to my tree stand", signed Sylvie.....WHOLLY MOLLY!!!!!!!!!! She actually beat us to it and on that day, she was the only one that seen a moose. She didn't get a shot but enjoyed the experience.

Her nickname is Ruffy ( Ruffed Grouse ) because she can't even if her life depended on it walk in a straight line in the bush LOL Too funny !!! but she is quite a dedicated and ethical experienced bowhunter and a role model for so many young girls in the Northwest Territories.
