Default phathead

I have decide to go with phathead's this year for hunting I was wondering how many of you guys use them. I went with the phathead so I could re use them without having to replace blades. I was just wondering if anyone else use them.

I'll be shooting the 100gr Phatheads this year as well and I know a few other guys on Athens staff will be shooting them this year too. I've got a dozen of them laying here now but havent had a chance to test shoot any of them out of my Athens eXceed yet since I have it setup for 3-d right now.
-bowfreak- is shooting them out of this eXceed and he said they were flying like darts for him and he's been very impressed with the sharpness and how well they hold and edge so far.

Have a pack of Phatheads that has been laying around here somewhere that haven't been opened as I've been very happy with how Razor Tricks have flown and performed. I am going to try them this year if they fly like the RT's do to see how they compare.

I have had great success with them the last 3 years. Our group has used them to put a hurting on a pile of animals including deer, hogs, turkeys, and bears. One of our guys does a lot of long range shooting and he can stack them at 80 yards no problem.

Here are my first Phathead kills. They are great heads. They are excellent heads and are in the upper echelon on broadheads. I consider these Buzzcuts, Snuffer SS and Strikers in the same class. All are great heads.

BowFreak,

While Busscuts/Stingers are excellent but they can have the tip bend upon impacting bone. That gives PhatHeads an advantage over them.

Since SilverFlames are now Chinese crap I'm shooting Phat Heads this year.

I know the superiority of 2 blade heads so for the Phat Heads I am removing the bleeder blades to greatly improve penetration and lethality. And I am sharpening the tip into an actual cut-on-contact tanto. I had to call SteelForce directly to find their stupid wrench that is impossible to find otherwise. Not sure what the wrench costs but I got 3x 125gr Phat Head main blades and the wrench for $22 direct. Not bad.

I verified the 125 gr blades fit the 100gr ferrels. So I'm going to experiment with both blades (throwing the bleeders in the trash) and report results.

I'll post pics of before and after once that wrench comes in and I can get to work. SHould be here any day now.

develobear - I would encourage people using this site to not use negative remarks agains broadhead companies. If you want to tell someone their broadhead are crap, do so in a PM to them directly.

Let me know what the weight of the 125 blades are. Are they actually 25 grains heavier or is the ferrule beefed up too? The total weight of the bleeders is only 6-8 grains. If the blade were 10 grains heavier that would be perfect. Honestly....I think Steel Force should just do away with the bleeders and concentrate on a heavy duty 2 blade head......maybe make up the difference in weight by just not machining the grooves in the ferrule and beefing widening the main blade a smidge.

Bowfreak,
That is an awesome picture. Nice deer! And I agree completely with you on the Phat Head. I was told the ferrules were exactly the same aluminum ferrules for the 100gr and the 125gr. The 145gr and African has a steel ferrule. steel ferrule + 125gr main blade = 170gr. So I expect the main blade to be 25gr heavier for the 125. Why would 10gr heavier be perfect? For me if they offered a convex blade version in a pure 2 balde then it would be perfect! I'm still waiting on the SteelForce wrench.

All,
Sorry about the negative comment on the Chinese SilverFlames.

I have been tossing around for my fiance to use a phathead. Ike's reviews have me on the brink. Congrats on the good looking deer.

All,
Sorry about the negative comment on the Chinese SilverFlames.

Then you could ditch the bleeders and still have a 100gr. head. I realize 10-20 grains in weight difference is nominal but I am anal.
