I've been shooting the old TekanII's for a couple of years. Well blades are becoming hard to find so it's time to swap broadheads. I love the Tekan's but am leaning towards going back to fix blade. I am shooting 27.5DL at 61#. 310gr arrow traveling at 309FPS. My biggest worry with fixed blades is them not flying true with the higher speed. I don't have a bunch of cash laying around (thanks to my two young'uns),to buy different BHs and try them out. Can you guys point me in the right direction for my setup. Thanks and glad I found this site, already found some very cool stuff on here..Trent

I picked up the NAP hellrazors and am having zero trouble with them. And they are doing a 4 pack so thats always a good bang for your buck......no pun intended..... check em out for sure. IMHO

I hear your story and know where you're at. Unfortunately today there are a ton of great BHs on the market. You can go with the Phoenix as Sinister had mentioned or you can go with one of any number of other BHs. My personal favorites are Magnus Buzzcuts and Wasp SST Boss (the Hammer SSTs are great also). The Buzzcuts give you an unconditional lifetime warranty, are resharpenable, and a good price. The Wasp's are a great value at 6 for $37 but you'll need to replace the blades. I'm currently shooting the Buzzcuts and they fly like my FPs.
Best of luck. David

i've been looking for a BH with field tip flight characteristics; I was given a suggestion from a tech with Excalibur crossbows who was at a local archery shop recently on a product demo day; he said that several Excalibur employees, including himself, have had success with the Slick Trick 100gr 4 blade Standard broadheads; he said that the 4 blade design ensures that entry & exit holes will be large enough for sufficient bleed out and blood trails; I will be using these with my Excalibur Ibex crossbow this year;
on the flip side, I discovered that my traditional Muzzy 3 blade 100gr broadheads fly true from my G5 Quest XPB 32 compound bow, so my investment in Muzzy products a few years back will not be wasted |

You can't go wrong with all these heads mentioned but the 4 pack of NAP Hellrazors Priced at $30 after $10 dollar rebate untill I think Oct.1st is by far the best deal out there! Buy 2 Four packs and your getiing pretty much 3 heads free ! Awsome deal for sure but you also can't go wrong with the Buzzcut's,Phoenix,and many more so it's more a personal choice and thanks too NAP'S Great deal my choice wasn't hard at all
Once again thanks NAP!If you wanna stick with a mechanical id go with Grim Reaper or Swhacker! With your specs Grim Reaper would be best.

In your situation, you have a few options. I think first, you will be best suited for a 3 or 4 blade broadhead from a standpoint of flight characteristics, with a four blade likely being a little better for you. From a penetration standpoint, the 2 blade broadhead stands alone. In the case of switching to a fixed blade, inserts may be your best friend as far as money savings are concerned. You are going to get the best flight characteristics out of a heavier arrow with fixed blades, unless you get one of those broadheads that just sometimes loves your bow, or your bow loves them. They can be hit or miss out of the best tuned bow. You are shooting just over 5 grains per pound of draw weight, and you are getting excellent speed for your draw weight and length. If you are insistent on going with fixed blades, I would likely shoot the Magnus Stinger, NAP Hellrazor, or Slick Tricks. All generally fly pretty well out of most bows. The Slick Tricks will likely offer the most consistent flight characteristics, followed by the Hellrazor, and then finally the Stinger. Increasing arrow weight and fletching length can have great effect on fixed blade broadheads at speed(this can be trial and error, but there are a few certainties, with exception to exacting weights). What you gain in potential for stability, you ultimately give up in penetration(you have more than enough KE for either, keep in mind), from the 4 blade, to the 3 blade, to the 2 blade, with the 4 blade generally more stable, and the 2 blade offering the greatest potential for penetration. If however, you may decide to shoot a mechanical, I urge you to shoot the Grim Reaper. I have yet to find a more absolutely wicked broadhead out there. I have shot more than 10 deer in the past 3 seasons with the Grim Reapers. I have never not had a pass through. I have not lost a deer (which honestly has more to do with shot placement), with a Grim Reaper to date. I have lost a few blades on account of dropping the broadhead out of the box before being assembled, but never on a shot. All of the broadheads are still intact and have the original blades. They are super tough and provide a blood trail that may be equal, but second to none. The fly like field tips, and when I say that, I should rather say they fly with your field tips. Flying like your field tips is a bit of false advertisement used in the industry today. Flying like your field tips means that they WILL group up with one another like your field tips, but not necessarily that they will group WITH your field tips. Grim Reapers will group WITH your field tips time and time again. Unless you have your heart set on a fixed blade, shoot the Grim Reapers. I believe you will be glad you did.

Do not overlook the Smoke Ramcats! Awesome head, fixed/mechanical hybrid that flies like a field point and are only $29.99 for a 3 pack on Broadhead Shed. They are in my quiver for a safari starting the 20th in south Africa.

I took my first deer with a bow and the the NAP HELLRAZORS this past Saturday. He was a full twenty yard shot, walked about 15 more and folded up. I have attached the entry hole pic and if you could see down in the hole it was huge and straight threw stuck in the gorund about 4 inches. I cleaned it up last night ran it across my diamond stones and she is back in the quiver.
They are one tuff head and never nead new blades just touch them up and go. The best way to sharpen is with a fine and extra fine set of diamond stones, and then lapp with a piece of leather and polish to a scary sharp edge. |

I recently found an archery store that has tons of stuff for bow heads. It is the Keystone Country Store. They actually have a couple of broadhead rental pakages set up so you can try about 6 or 8 different heads and then send them back. Check it out at keystonecountrystore.com and click on broadheads. I might rent a set of them this Spring just to give a bunch of different heads a try.

I have found one of the best places to get customer reviews, for anything to do with hunting and fishing, is Cabela's web site. You can check out a lot of different broadheads and see what the people that are hunting with them have to say. After that you can shop around on-line to get further information and or to try and find a better price. Good luck in picking a new tip!
I have recently decided to give the Aftershock Tremor 100 grain a try. I ordered a pack of them last night and since nobody on this site seems to have tried them, I'll have to do my own testing. After I'm done field testing I'll post my feelings about them. I might even be able to make a video!
