Hey newbie here, great site by the way! I just got some Muzzy MX4s the other day. I was shooting at my 3d deer target that was leaning against my garage door. With field points I just put the pin where I wanted to hit and I hit that spot. This is the first time using broadheads so I put on of them into the door. This garage is about 80 years old has 1x4 boards runing vertical on the doors. I ruined the head getting it out. I was just wondering what I could put behind the target so I dont loose anymore heads. I was thinking a sheet of 1/4 inch plywood to catch the strays. Any ideas would be great! Thanks.

Welcome to the site.
Well unfortunately just about any other wood is also going to be pretty hard on your BH's. You might give these folks a call, American Whitetail Inc. Last year my bud and I got a heck of a deal on a couple of 3'x3' King BH targets that were seconds or blems, if you want to call them that. THey have held up great to our shooting and even with a bit of touch up, they were still worth the price we paid for them. Give them a ring and ask if they have anything like that nowadays, if they do you won't be sorry. They make excellent targets.

Put a corrugated box behind it. The box won't provide any slowdown ability, but it will provide for a buffer zone to allow your current target additional time to slow the arrow down. Try this... take a shot at your target with nothing behind it. Does it stop the arrow? And how much of the arrow is sticking out the back? Whatever that distance is, place a box behind so that it will provide the space that you just measured.

Thanks guys I have looked into the web site you posted. I just might call them and see what they could do. Yoda the target stops the arrows it's just when i completly miss the target and hit the door. But the target is getting older so I will keep that in mind. Thanks again for your replys.

how close are we talking for distance when shooting? i found that tight stray hay bales work great for a back stop. plus they are cheap. if your using a higher speed bow at close ranges just double layer it. but i have found that one layer of stray hay bales works great for me but i dont really start missing the target until i get back to 50 or 60 when i am tuning my bow.
also you might want to check to see if your bow is within spec because usually you should be able to screw on your broadheads and hit somewhat decent with your fp's without much tinkering. good luck in your search. in my opinion anything is better then hitting your garage door. |
