Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum so don't make too much fun of me. I am currently shooting a Mathews DXT with a 27" draw length right at about 60lbs shooting Carbon Express Maxima 350 arrows cut to 27 1/4". I have been struggling to figure out which broadheads to use and I'm between Wasp, Muzzy's, and Slick Tricks. What would be my best option in a Slick Trick head? I'm kind of leaning this way due to the four blade setup but can't decide whether to get Mags, Razortricks, Grizz Tricks, Standards...and so on and so forth. Could someone please help me make my mind up? Also, 100gr or 125's? Thanks! |

If you get the Slicktrick Standards you can change them to Magnums very easily by just installing Magnum Blades. The ferrels are the same in both heads. That gives you a low cost option to try two different heads. It will only cost you a 3 pk of heads and a pack of spare blades.
In my setup 125s definitely fly better and more accurately than 100s. My advice is to find out which weight flies better for your setup with fieldpoints prior to purchasing broadheads. Hope that helps. Last edited by Leo; 09-30-2010 at 10:04 PM. |

+1 on what Leo said.
Some people have said they had accuracy issues with the Grizztrick but I have not expirenced any issues with them myself. I think you would be very happy with either the standards or the magnums. And for the 100's vs the 125's that is purely a situation where you will have to try them out of your set up. Each and every setup is different but your arrow should be stiff enough for either one of them so you won't have any spine issues.

I shot a bear this spring with the 125 standards and they flew right on the money and no problems with a pass thru either

95huskers,
This is Tony at Slick Trick. And for the rest of you that may know my user name as khazi6, I changed it. You have recieved some great advice from the other guys. I would recomend the Standards or Razor Tricks for your setup. With the lighter draw weight and shorter draw (same as mine) length, you want to maximize your penetration. Especially when hunting from elevation. Both the Standard and Razor Trick have a 2" total cut. The advantage of the Standards is, like Leo said, the ferrules of the Standard and Magnums are the same between their respective weights(100 and 125). If you use the Standard and find that your penetration is excellent out of your setup, you might want to move up to the Magnums by just getting Magnum replacement blades. No need to buy a full pack. Just a note, we have had several women get complete pass throughs on both Deer and Bear with our Magnums over the years and they were shooting 40 and 45lbs. Which ever head you may choose, feel free to call me if there is anything or questions I can help you with. Our number is 870-934-0131. |

Why the 350's??? These are way too stiff for your setup, especially cut down to your length. Even the 250's would be too stiff with 100gr. points. This is based on my experience shooting 250 Maxima Hunters at (62#, 28" dl, 27" arrow) with 100 gr. and 125 gr. pts, as well as running these specs through OT2 and TAP. In fact, the programs say you need about 175 gr. pts. to break the spine down enough even with the 250's.
Now, your setup may be o.k. as is, but I predict that you will have a whole lot of trouble trying to tune any broadhead, especially fixed-blade, with your equipment. I'm not trying to criticize you, I'm just trying to save you a bunch of headaches that I've gone through before myself. Last edited by Topcat; 01-30-2011 at 06:31 PM. |

I have some of each I shoot 100 gr heads and they fly great out of a tuned bow I have been shooting the mags and also MX4 from Muzzy either way both good heads the slick trick penetrates very well I might try a grizz trick with the lower poundage bow looks very nice haven't tried them but you would like the Mags I would stick with 100gr

After Tony makes his comment, it is really like "enough said" already. However, to add my 2 cents worth, the Standards are phenomenal for an all round, deep penetrating head. Personally, I prefer them to the Razors, but the Razors are awesome as well. I like the chisel point...but I do sharpen it up just a bit.

I killed a few deer with the mags at 65 pounds with a 29 draw goldtip 5575 pass thru's on all. But I think the standards might work a little better at 60 pounds. Either one is as tough as nails make big holes and spill lots of blood good luck.

ST's are very good heads and I have used all of them I think. I do not shoot the razor tricks anymore due to tip curl. Now, I am not sure if this curl was due to hitting bone or if it met with a rock in the ground. Suspect a rock so can't really fault the head at all
I still prefer the standard and magnum heads over the others but that is me. I also shoot MX4's and have no complaints with these heads but I shoot ST's more often. ST's are harder to find, everyone carries muzzy's. Good luck to all. |
