I bought a pack of replacement blades this year, and I put them on. They rattled badly, and were loose. I tried the flat side of the washer, and I tried the rounded side of the washer (per Gary at Slick Trick). Neither worked. I still haven't gotten around to giving them a call; even though I should!

Give them a call,

It might be that you have the wrong size O ring and that you dont get enough tension on the BH to lock the blades.

Maybe it's me, I'm an engineer by trade, but if you are relying on a 1/2 cent o-ring to lock the blades, then that's just not a robust design. I'm sure the engineers at Slick Trick can figure a way so that the o-ring doesn't become the critical component to the design. At least that's how I would go about it.

Gerhard,
Have you had any trouble with the blades being loose?. I used a set of standards in Texas this year and didn't notice a problem with loose blades.....maybe it is just the magnums that are having an issue....I'll order a set and see.

Booner,

The only time I noticed loose blades was I think the 2nd time I used to bh to shoot into the BH target and forgot to put the O ring in.

Apart from that I never had the problem blades not locking or being loose on the arrow. I have been shooting them for the last 4 + years....

I wish I can figure out why that blades are not locking properly.

I have discussed the issue with the guys at Slick Trick and they are willing to look at the problem bh's...

Perhaps they had a bad lot or two of ferrules and I was the recipient of some. I can't see it being the blades because I tried both the standards and the magnums so... I'm also curious if this has been noticed on the new designs they have come out with.

Well I'll just pick up a set of each and check them. Thanks so much Gerhard and Yoda. We have a great topic and now a chance to figure out a problem. I'll let you know when they come in.

Gary is aware of this issue. I had the very same problem a few years ago when I tried the Magnums. I called ST and they sent me new ferrules(I think.....It might have been blades). That fixed the problem.

I had other problems with STs and swtiched to Snuffer SS and Buzzcuts. I am much more confident in either Magnus over the STs. JMHO.....

Last year I used std 125gr STs to hunt 2 kudus and one Oryx - I also had the problem with one of my heads not locking the blades. Mine was because the insert of my nano arrow was not deep enough.
So even when I put a field point in this arrow there would be a small gap between the point and my arrow. I just swithched arrows and the problem was solved.
As for the noise - not one of the animals moved before they were hit by the arrow.

All 3 dropped within 100 yards, I will not change to another broadhead soon.
