Default Slick Trick Discussion

I can't tell you guys, and gal, how many times I've read/heard about how great the Slick Tricks are. In particular on this site, I've seen Gerhard explain how much he truly likes these heads. So, I'd like to share my experiences with you and see if this is an oddity or is it the somewhat common, but it does not negatively effect the performance of the head.

A couple of seasons ago, I picked up a pack of the Slick Trick Magnums and went about, as I usually do, and tested them out to see where their POI was as compared to my FPs. The first thing I noticed was that no matter how tight I tried to make them, 1 of the blades was loose to the point that I could wiggle that blade. I then went and shot them at the target and noticed the BH making a hissing noise in flight. I repeated this a number of times and even checked my FPs to see if that noise was there. And I even asked a few others if I was just me; they all confirmed that the Slick Trick made the noise and it wasn't from the FPs. I spoke with the folks from Slick Trick and told them what I was experiencing. To my surprise, they stated that they were sending me a set of replacement blades for the standards to see if that fixed the issues I was seeing... 2 thumbs up for Slick Trick.

So I took the new blades and did the same thing as I had done before. Unfortunately, the same problems presented themselves. Well, I gave them the pass and continue to do so as there are other BHs that work to my liking.

So I ask you all, is my experience the norm or not? Have you noticed what I have? If you did, does it matter to you? And lastly, have you experienced any negative effects, deer dropping... etc, as a result of them?

Sorry so long...
David

David,

The only time I have noticed the blades being "loose" is when I did not put the metal O ring in the broad head before putting it on the arrow. If you still have the BH's please check if this was the problem...

I have also heard guys complaining about BH noise when shooting it.

To be honest I have heard a lot of different broad head whistling in flight. There is a lot of different arguments about this and what the cause is...

What I can confidently say is that I could not notice any reaction from game animals I hunted with tricks. Except that they drop with in 100 yards from where they were shot, thats if I do my job by placing the arrow in the boiler room...

All the best,

I wish I could say that was the problem, but the o-ring was on.

David,

I honestly dont know what the problem is then. I have not experienced it before.

I suggest to get hold of the guys at Slick Trick and talk to them again...

Gary and Tony are great guys and I am sure they will be able to assist you with this problem.

I shoot with David quite a bit and the whistle from the slick tricks was very loud. The same head out of my bow was quieter, but still whistled. As I stated earlier, I plan on revisisting Slick Tricks and maybe using them next bow season.

Gerhard - I appreciate your help and feedback, and agree that the Slick Trick guys are very good. It was apparent in their customer service. But at this point, I've already traded the 2 remaining ones off to someone on AT. At this point, I'm just curious about them since they have such a huge following.

I would suggest you take another chance and buy another packet.

But this time buy Slick Trick Std's and test them.

I have told a lot of guys here in South Africa.

"if you dont like the tricks I will buy them from you"

and I have yet to buy a packet from a guy that was not happy with them...

Good hunting.

Hmmm... this give me an idea. Chuck, you buy them, and I'll test them. LOL

Actually, it's ok. I've just switched to the Magnus Buzzcuts 4 blade BH and can't wait to see the results from these evil looking BHs.

I have had that problem with Tricks before with the blades moving, but it was because I didn't assemble it quite right. If I remember right I didn't push something up far enough. If I do it again I'll let you know what it was, but each time that happened I disassembled and put back together and all was well in the world.

As for the noise, well, no big deal. My big snuffers do that too and they kill just fine at 190fps lol.

This thread is yet another example of how BROADHEADTALK.COM differs from other sites/forums(IMO). Nothing against any other site out there, but these posts are great.

A guy stating a problem he has/had, and another asking questions and giving suggestions(pro-staffer for the head in question). All the while, nobody is taking offense to any post, suggestions or questions. Everyone is here for the same reason, and this thread exemplifies that.

It's unfortunate that I've seen these types of threads on other sites and they turn argumentative in a hurry. Way to go guys, you ROCK!

Have I said, "I LOVE THIS SITE" lately?

Is that correct... 190fps? If it is, that's pretty slow. Or did you mean 290?

BFL - while I can say that this site rocks, the issues you talk about are usually not because of the site itself but the characters that frequent the site. I can easily say that everyone here has the right mindset when it comes to what a forum should be about. We rule!

Yoda...Varmit is a traditional shooter also. His traditional bow is the one at 190 fps. hahahaha. I agree with the mindset.....this is a sport we all love and have a passion about...It is good medicine for the sport when people can interact, discuss and solve problems in an adult manner and with open minds....all opinions differ some way....I have learned more from listening than talking....thanks guys. oh...and Gal...

David - you are absolutely correct. Not the site itself, just some sour apples out there sometimes. I couldn't agree more that WE RULE! But I still frequent other sites too....

As well you should....it's all about the sport. I encourage everyone to visit as many sites as they can and get all the information they can. I want to learn....and the best way to learn is by talking to people with experience and also by experience yourself.
