Are the specs the same between the regular montecs and the cs version? Thinking about switching...wasn't thrilled with the sharpness of the standard montec, but liked the way they fly.
shooting 60lb, 400 grain arrow, 265fps Some have told me even the cs version needs sharpening out of the package...don't want a broadhead I have to sharpen before I shoot (one of the reasons I am thinking about switching). I have practice heads for the regular montecs. thanks. |

I have also the CS, they are sharpen than the SS just out the package.
for sure u need to buy a stone for sharpening I use a fallkniven DC4 stone, u have a 600 grit diamond stone on a side and a 6000 grit ceramic stone on the other side. it's good to made a regular sharpening with not so big damage on the edge of the broadhead. if u damage the broadhead more, u need to use a 400 grit stone, or a piece of sand paper on a flat piece of wood ( u can easly do it by yourself, without buying th DC4, with a flat piece of wood with a 200,400, 600 grit sand paper and at the other side u could glue a leather layer with finishing polish cream ). the only negative thing I could tell u about the CS version is the rust: u can use vaseline or glicerine on the blade, but it will be always wet, attiring dust. another thing is to passivate the carbon steel blades putting then one night on a glass containing Coca Cola, and pass the blade on the leather strop before hunting ah... the CS are shorter than the SS and they must keep the edge better (they must be 56 hrc against the 54 hrc of the ss version, but I am not sure about that) I hope what I say could help u Fabrizio |

The DC 4 compared with the DMT Diasharp 600-1200 grit
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting and the wood I use to sharpen. I put the leather also on sand paper 'couse on knives I like a convex edge. on that broadheads, the edge MUST be flat ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting it's cheap, versatile, light, u can build it in the dimensions u need (mine is big to sharpen also 10" knives like the Dog Father )to sharpen a broadhead, u can also use a smallet piece of wood. |

I switched to CS from SS because of sharpness. I found the CS would shave the hair on my arm clean in one pass right out of the package. The SS would not shave at all even wet. I sharpened the SS with no improvement. I sharpened the CS with two stones and a strop with superior sharpness. I have shot a few deer and a turkey with them with 100% success so far. The pass thru on the turkey resulted in a lost arrow.
