I just picked up a pack of Montec SS yesterday. Had to put them on an EZE LAP diamond stone for a few minutes and they are a lot better than when they came out of the package. They do not really shave, but if you put a slight amount of pressure on a rubber band it slices right through. Is there an even better way to sharpen these as far as what kind of stone to use? Some people say the stone from G5 works well and some say it does not. Does stropping them on a leather belt work for some people? I mean, how sharp do you need them? If they slice right through a rubber band with no effort of pressure at all, is this enought to effectively kill the deer?? I mean, I want as much hemmorage as possible...

I just bought a pack of the G5 Montec SS. They have to be one of the dullest broadheads out of the package Ive ever seen. Tried to sharpen one up a bit on some 800 grit sandpaper laid on a piece of glass. Also tried running them on a diamond stone I have from a sharpener.
I like the design. They look like a tough head. And I shot the one I tried to sharpen and it flew great. But if i cant shave hair off my arm with a broadhead I wont use it. Maybe I have to try another sharpening method. |

I use a diamond stone and it works just fine, I don't strop but I do coat the new edge with either liquefied Vaseline or paraffin to minimize rust( it doesn't take much to loose that fine edge). Just be sure that if you do coat your heads, use a very fine coat so as not to form a build up or collect dirt along the edge.
