Default G5 Stryker FAIL!

Last night I was in the stand when a monster boar hog came in. If I had to guess he was between 250 and 300 pounds, a real big boy. I know they say never take a broadside shot on a hog that big but at 25 yards I thought I could penetrate his "shield". I shoot a 450 grain arrow at about 260 fps if I remember correctly. Well I only got about 3 inches of penetratio .

I asked a lot of my equipment, I know, but I still feel short changes. A couple of months ago I set up the shoulder blade of an 800 lb cow and shot a few heads at it. The montec ( not stryker) was tested and didn't come close to full penetration. The silver flame and steel force 4 blade were also tested and blow right through and then some.

I guess i should have known but now I'm sold on the steelforce heads.

Again, not bashing the Stryker, it was a questionable shot at best, but I want to be able to shoot at ANYTHING and be confident I will get great penetration and I don't think a 3 blade with such wide angles is the best fit for me.

Getting a pack of steelforce heads tonight.

You admit to taking a questionable shot, and then blame the broadhead for failing?????

Thats exactly what I was thinking. My father used these heads for a deer or two with no issues. So I dont think any broadhead would have done much better.

I said I wasn't blaming the head but it's not rocket science, a steelfoce head with much steeper angles will out penetrate a 3 blade head with much wider angles. And someone shooting deer with no problems is not the same as a boar hog.

Deer and big hog's are two very very different things.

Running Bear, it did sound like you were blaming the head, but you should know as well as I do taking broadside shots on big hog's it needs to be low and tight to the shoulder, but preferably wait for the quartering away shot.

Big Hog like that you should probably also have a little more oomph behind it....heavier arrow would help but strykers are getting an unfair trial here

No wild hogs in PA. Sure would like to hog hunt someday. Anyhow seams that its all about broadhead placement.

lol a 450 grain arrow has enough "oomph" to blow through two big hog's if you hit them in the right spot. Nothing to blame here but the shot.

I'm not saying the Stryker doesn't have it's place, but I want a head that gets the job done in less than perfect circumstances. Maybe I'm just old fashioned that way. A field point can kill an elephant IF everything is PERFECT, but in real life it rarely is. That's all I'm saying. I think a different head will help me because I never have a PERFECT shot here in the real world.....

I think it's sad someone might see this and think the STRIKER is a bad head. It's not at all, but bad shots make good heads suck. I'm sure it wasn't intentional and marginal shots can come out great, but sometimes they don't. But your confidence will forever be shaken on the Striker. Steelforce makes a great head and you should like them. Easily tuned just like the G5.

I would say the first hurdle you need to get over is SPELLING. Check out the packaging on those head you bought,,,,,,, its Striker!!!!!! Okay now that we are over that, make a better shot and you wont have to blame the head........
