Default Good hunting boots

Yes, its early, 03:21 and I'm still not ready to get sleeping. I have been putting off re-sealing my leather hunting boots and just finished doing that task about 20 minutes ago.

A couple of years back, I was getting ready to hike up the Liard mountain range in search of dall sheep, moountain caribou and our swamp donkeys. A friend of mine had informed me how he liked his Danner boots and I went and ordered a 600 gram insulation Danner Canadian leather boot. They were outstanding and grip is an understatement, they made walking safe and comfortable.

So, after 5 years, I still have the same pair, they are warm and have always kept my feet dry. An incredible boot !!

For really wet areas where I know I won;t be walking too far, I like my Muck boots, they too are amazing footwear.

What are you guys using? And really appreciating.

SB

Danner Pronghorns uninsulated here. The winters don't get bitterly cold normally and my feet sweat so badly I cant wear a heavily insulated boot. I've heard lots of people complain about them leaking. I musta got a good pair. Probalby have five season on them and no leakage thus far!

Hummm, Cartman308, I was also thinking about getting a non insulated pair next year, I'll take a look at these pronghorns while I'm out in Edmonton AB.

Oh, and by the way, I did not get any dall sheep, mountain caribou and or swamp donkey that year, we did get bluff charged by a sow Grizzly though, pretty high adrenaline rush right there, let me tell ya !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did manage to get a rabbitt and Sylvie used it to make her famous homemade beans..... YUMMY!!!!!!!!

I am trying the new Proghorns this year. Have used Wolverine in the past and liked those. Irish Setters are nice too.

When you'll have tried the Pronghorns for a bit, please give us a review of them

Thanks

I've been using the Danner Pronghorns for about six years. From the brooks range in AK to the midwest and here in NC. They are without a doubt my favorite boot. I have a pair that is insulated and a non-insulated pair. In AK I'd wear them pretty much ten months out of the year.

I have had a pair of Irish Setter Elk Trackers with 200 grain thinsulate for 6 years now and they have been awesome. I wear them for everything (deer hunting, pheasant hunting, ice fishing, boat fishing, working with our horses, cutting firewood, hiking, and on and on...) They see my feet generally 2-3 days a week nearly year round. The only thing that I change for the various conditions is the weight of my socks. Never had a problem with leaks unless, of course, the water gets a little too deep...

And fo an extra bonus, built rite into da cajun reeboks is dat if you fall out da boat, day slip rite off so you can swim and not sink. Try dat wit doe's ankle tite boots shah. Unda $15 too!

Ive had a pair of Wolverine insulated gore tex boots for over 10 years of hard use and still haven't had wet feet. Time to replace them as the soles are pretty worn. Last year hunted quite a bit in some Muck boots. Very light and comfortable. Fairly warm. They wont replace pac boots though.

Thumbs up

a couple months ago i was in the market for new boots, as i was tired of the heavy ones that i had been wearing for the last couple of seasons. searching various forums i cam across camuks. i had never heard of them before so i checked out their site. i ended up ordering a pair of the camuks extremes and these are *by far* the most comfortable things i have ever had on my feet. they are made of rubberized moosehide and are very lightweight. they claim to be warm also. i haven't tested out their warmth, but i plan on wearing a liner, a heavy wool sock, and chemical heaters if necessary - so warmth shouldn't be an issue. these things are just pure pleasure to wear and i can't wait to put them to use this year.

I have been wearing my Wolverine Bowhunter boots for a couple of years now. They keep my feet warm and dry even in deep snow.
