Default Scouting for moose

What an incredible day, we went to a location approximately 5 miles out of the community and scouted out a new moose bowhunting area. In total, we walked about 7 miles and found a natural moose crossing. Tracks everywhere, a very exciting day to say the least, in some places the willows and small birch trees had been broken approximately 7 feet up in the air, a bull moose had previously done with his antlers the last couple of years, very, very exciting. We also located a spot where we will be setting up a spike camp and the tree stand where we will be building this year 1.5 miles away from camp.

Next time we will go in, I'll take a few pictures and post them on BHT........I am pumped !!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to get in there and start calling

Wow, you had to go a whole five miles. Why don't you just stay home instead of spike camping? Or is this like camping in the back yard when you were a kid?

So when does season start?

Are you going to use your 84# bow or did you get the new 100# one?

Looks like with your new avitar that you will be using the Phoenix 150 or am I wrong?

Best of luck to you.

LOL It is kind of close to the community however, there are soooooo many road hunters that the moose prefer travelling further in the tree line. The other thing is that everyone seems to go moose hunting by boat and that area has not been hunted by foot yet so when we found that place, it was like finding a gold mine

The reason why we decided to set up a spike camp is to be able to have a quick " Under the radar " walk to our stand and wait till light to get a good shooting opportunity.

According to the tracks, we have a couple of large moose and last year's calves. That's great because if there's a cow around, its much easier to bring in a bull !!!!!!

September 1st is moose opening day and what is a bonus is that on our way to our camp, there are a number of sandhill crane ponds and marshes......only a few sleeps to go.

I think the bow I will have to take is my 84# Black Mamba/ Phoenix bhds because I don't know if my new Athens Accomplice will get here in time......perhaps if I put 20 pretty please along side my order, they will get it to me ASAP !!!!! LOL

Like a bunch of kids at Christmas, you should see this house, its like if a bowhunter's time bomb went off and there's camo clothes everywhere, bows, you name it, I'm even calling moose and got an answer !!!!!!!!!!LOL LOL

I am going to assume that Sylvie is going to spike camp with you I wish the both of you great luck, please post pics. I have to wait until the spring to hunt, with moving and all finances just aren't right to pay nonresident fees so all of you will have to fill me in on your hunts.
