Today, as I was shooting a few arrows, Sylvie told me she thought my upper cam was leaning to the left. When I checked, it was and I am quite disturbed by it. I hope this is not the end of this bow and perhaps someone could chime in and let me know what is the cause of a cam lean. Sylvie could see it clear as day when I came to full draw. If I tried to pull a bit more into my valley, the cam leaned even more, not good.
I hope this is a minor fix ![]() Daniel

That is one of the problems with heavy poundage bows, that I found years ago (when I was stilll young and strong). The bearings take a beating from the high forces being placed on the cables. Usually it was just a bearing change and everything was back in order. Once in a while it also required an axle change. It also would always happen (or at least get bad enough to notice) around hunting season. Funny you haven't noticed your shooting going south recently. From some of your other posts it sounds like you have been shooting great out to 80-100 yards.
With the bow at rest try twisting the cam side to side and see if there is any play. Did you get your 100# bow yet? |

No, Big Boar, I have not received my new 100# bow yet but its will be here soon enough, I am pretty pumped about that. When I woke up this am, I thought, maybe the cam lean has always always been there. You know, I never took the time to check for cam lean so I couldn't confirm that. Today, I will go and shoot a couple of rounds at 80 yards to see how my arrows are flying but you know, this cam lean is possibly due to the weight of the bow.
When I tried to twist the top cam with my hand, it didn't move, there is no play there. Thank you for mentioning that !!!! Great idea Everything is solid. But you know, right now, I think I will keep it here and see how it shoots. If its fine, I'll hunt with it and if it shaky a bit, I'll have to send it back on warranty. Daniel

When my bearings would go it was always possible to get the cam to move by hand. I also would notice problems with my shooting because as it tipped when released, it would cause the arrow to move (I believe side to side) when released and this was not consistient from shot to shot.
Does it look like the cam is leaning when the bow is at rest? Do both cams lean or just one? |

I really don't know what has happened, I am totally at lost for words. Anyhow, the bow has been boxed up and will return to the manufacturer tomorrow. Having taken a much closer look at the top cam on camera, the cam does tilt sideways at full draw and I do not want to take any chances with it. I'm sure its going to be a quick fix.
Back to the longbow and a release........I believe that things always happen for a reason. The one good thing about this is I have these gorgeous custom Red Feather Archery cedar arrows tipped with their Phoenix 150's broadheads begging to be shot. There is always something positive out of every situation in life ![]() I hope the guys at the bow shop get the issue fixed and get the bow back fairly quickly. Daniel

Maybe it was meant to be a precursor to you receiving your 100# bow. Kind of a test to see how you would handle it, and it sounds like you pass.
Like you say, everything happens for a reason, stay positive. |

This was on your APA bow corrrect?
Cam lean is a hot issue on other forums. It's a common problem with slaved dual cam bows. I'm not sure the exact type of system the APA uses but if it's slaved dual than it may or may not be a huge problem....... depends on who you ask and how bad the lean is. I've read trough alot of the stuff on cam lean and my opinion is......... If the bow is tuning properly don't pay attention to it. If the cam is leaning horribly (all a matter of opinion) send it to the manufacture or play with the cables to twist it out. If the cam is touching the limb when it leans STOP SHOOTING AND GET IT FIXED! Just my .02

Big Boar, how the heck can a guy not stay positive with awesome people like all of you on Broadheadtalk. I'm still shaking my head at how the Spirit of archery is alive and well here.
And to add to my days blessings, I received a call from one of you telling me how to fix the lean, go away, I told myself, this ain't happening, well, it did and as we are speaking, the lean has been fixed. I had to untwist the left side of the split cable attached to the cam and twist the right hand side and guess what, the darn cam moved over. I am totally flabbergasted, deprived of words right now at how respectful and caring the good folks on here are. I have to tell you I really need to up the anty and be twice as nice.....lol....just kidding, i can only be myself and hope that my actions instill a positive difference with the people I meet. And to be so very honest with all of you, I am only but a reflection of my Creator, giving to all of you what he has given to me so freely. To all of you and to some that I have already shared the prayer I recite when I smudge in the morning and at night, " I will pray that your words, thoughts and gestures climb to our Creator on the wings of his Eagle so that they may bless those that have been and those that are still being blessed by his ultimate grace, not forgetting the blessings those that are and have been fighting for our freedom". Thanking the administrators, moderators and creators of this site for allowing me, today, to share a part of my life that is for everyone to receive, kindness and respect. Daniel

I am happy for you. Like they have said before just keep the faith brother. Now you are free once more to get those free heads from RFA for posting the most big game shot with them. BOL to you.
I am glad it was just cable twist and not the bearings, a much easier fix with just a little time on the bow press. |
