Default Deer anatomy and shot placement

It's good to know where all the parts are.

I love the different layers this picture shows. You can look at this picture and recall past shots that didnt go so well and tell why. You can also sit and ponder on why the perfect tucked behind the shoulder semi qtr away shot didn't go the way it should have either. Sometimes it's just poor luck!!

Nice pics. Do you also have pics of movement on the front leg joints.

I was thinking the same thing. We've all had that "ONE" that didn't go so well, even though we swore it was a pretty good shot. These illustrations, if nothing more, bring back memories of many great kill shots, and some not so good. Thanks for posting the illustrations, these are a good training tool for young hunters.

Good to have a reminder every now and then. The bones in the front legs specially, for me.

this is a good thing for those up and comming hunters.I have always wanted a lung shot due to the large kill zone and also if you are a little back you have the liver that will kill and leave an amazing blood trail!

Just to clear this up for any new hunter, gun or bow. AVOID GUT SHOTS AT ALL COSTS!!! FOR YOUR OWN SAKE and the deers. Death is slow and painful for the deer. Followed by a long tracking job and if you find the deer.....oh boy the REAL fun begins! The odor is TERRIBLE. Field dressing isn't all the pleasant to begin with, add the odor of a gut shot............. Words cant describe the odor. Those that have been there understand this advise

Thumbs up

i think the most noted of those, is how the stomach pushes up against the heart, people think they made great shots b/c it was right next to the heart, but smell ur arrow and watch the deers reaction, b/c it'll takem a few hours to finish from the stomach shot, and GREAT POST

I stick to the lung shots myself. There is more room for error on those animals that get your heart pounding. This is a great illistration, thank you for the post. This could help all hunters to evaluate where they should try to focus their next shot!
