Default arrow issues

ok....i just typed out about 3 paragraphs of straight up complaining, but i dont wanna be that guy. bottom line, ive had my crossbow now for almost 15years. was given to me as a gift back in '98. came with 4 arrows. well last year i was down to 2. so i decided to buy a couple more. bought 2 more brand new arrows - same brand - same company (horton). i bought these new arrows in Novemeber of 2010. have shot BOTH arrows maybe a COMBINED 15 times. well tonight after one shot, the knock is bent and cracked and the fletching on one vane is half ripped off, and the other arrow after one shot, has one vane ripped completely off - both tonight - both ONE shot.....

all the while my brand new slick trick head blew through the target into my concrete basment wall and only had a mere (slight) bent tip.... thank God for small favors i guess....or thank Gary. in Gary's name we pray, amen, lol.

but seriously, my old arrows i've had for almost 15 years - the fletchings have holes and rips in them but they're still freaking attached to the arrow shaft....one sat in a beanfield lost for 3 months, and the other blew through a doe at 5 yards - still attached!! i guess i have to look elsewhere for a quality product?

should i buy those boil shrink wrap fletchings? my dad bought some and they seem to work pretty good

Shrink wrap fletchings are the most duarable i have ever used. I shot through deer, targets, partical board, and even sheet metal and still had the fletching attached and stil fully functional. Also make sure the spine on your arrows is correct for your crossbow, I'm not a crossbow hunter, but I do know proper spine makes a huge difference when shooting a bow so I don't know why it would be any different for a crossbow.

with my crossbow the knock has to be the lined up with 1 flushing I'm wondering how hard it will be to do that with the shrink wrap fletching....

It shouldnt be difficult at all, just before you put it into the boiling water line it up correctly. Hold the end of the shrink wrap closest to the point end, dip the end near the nock into the water and wait til it shrinks to the shaft then slowly immerse the rest of the shrink wrap to make sure it shrinks tight and works out all of the air, so there is no air bubbles on the wrap.

Out of curiosity what kind of crossbow do you shoot?

couple questions on these quick fletches - how clean does the shaft need to be? the cleaner the better?

2. should i worry about my knock deforming in the boiling water? it looks to just be plastic.

d. should i use some old pan? i dont wanna stick anything into a cooking pot on the stove that could either react or leave some toxic residue...so, anybody grow a thrid arm after doing this in a cooking pot?

I just make sure that all remenants of the previos fletching is gone. The water shouldnt be boiling when you dip it, just extremly hot. I always use a drinking glass that is tall to dip it, just transfer the hot water into the glass carefully. I have one drinking glass I use specifically for this also in case of residues.

As far as the third arm goes I'm still trying on that one.

I'm a huge NAP fan. That is my prefered brand. Good luck, shoot straight.
