Default Deer Smoke Screen

There has been alot of talk about using smoke as cover scent. This year I plan on trying something different pertaining to this. The product is Deer Smoke Screen. It is basically a punk (like the ones you use for fircrackers) that you keep lit next to you.

There have been many times I have hunted all day and just can't help but sweat as well as sitting in a stand and the wind change direction on me at the wrong time.

This just makes sense to me as far as being something that is as close to a natural cover scent as could be and really goes along way for just $12.

Check it out, see what you think and reply whether it be good or bad. I am not on staff with them, nor do I work for them. Just a customer. I told Keith I would try to get some feedback for him on his product.

If it is something you like and want to order, tell Keith Travis sent ya.

Thinking with some Bust a Buck earthscent lotion and deer smoke screen, this could be a deadly combo for me this year.

With the exception of today's rain, I wouldn't dare light anything that burns in the woods in OK. Not trying to Smokey the Bear but are you sure this is a good idea?

Im going to smoke a set of my hunting clothes as soon as the wood burners fire up. I have heard a lot of good things about it. I didnt know that smoke killed bacteria.

Interesting....... In my far flung youth, we hunted a lot of logging cut downs and clear cuts. The old timers, swore that if you hung a rag, soaked in diesel fuel, it would bring the deer in from miles away. The theory has ring of truth to it, because the deer know that the sounds of a chainsaws and skidders would mean access to the tree top cutoffs.
We did kill a lot of deer and there was the smell of diesel around. Weather it was enough to hide our scent and weather it helped bring the deer to us, I can't say. Scents like smoke and diesel fuel certainly let the deer know humans are around and if those scents become common place, I suppose it could be helpful.

Several years ago I tried some sented punks by I believe Tink's. You were supposed to drill holes in a 5 gallon bucket and light the punk under it. Never had any deer come into it but can't say any were frighten by it either.

We used to have a couple of older fellows and gals in the group for gun season and they would always light a fire and sit by it. They had lots of deer over the years come in to investigate. Don't ever remember any of them shooting any bucks though. However the women would sit there by the fire talking (LIke at home, not whispering) and had many bucks come in to them. They would always tell us "You should have seen the nice buck that walked right by the truck" but they would never lift the gun and shoot. But that could have been a woman thing more than the fire.

I stopped at a deer farm once with my wife and the big buck was eating out of our hands. A young couple came walking up and when the buck caught her scent his eyes glazed over and and he smashed into the fence. Thought he was going to tear it down. Always figured it was her time of the month because he sure reacted to her.

That was my first question when I talked to Keith, and he is right, it's no different than lighting a cigarrette.

I think the key thing here is common sense on when and where to light it.

I used them for the first time last weekend in a ground blind.

On windy days, lighting them in the pickup before you go to your stand is probably better than lighting it your stand with 30 mph winds we get here in Oklahoma.

I guess what I like about this method compared to smoking your clothes, is that it doesn't stink everything else up. Heard alot of guys complaining how hard it was to get the smoke smell out of there truck.

I'm sure glad we got this needed rain.....

Were are you at? I'm over in Altus and it will likely be raining until late Sunday night. We have standing water everywhere since the ground is too hard to absorb it. Could be some flash floods in some parts of the state.

So how much smoke/smell does the punk put off? I don't much care for smoke so being in a blind with it seems odd but if it covers human odors might I could live with it.

Im about 45 minutes North of OKC, in Marshall. As of this morning, we have had almost 4 inches but it wasn't a downpour all the time. A good soaker for us and my wheat fields are loving it.

The punk doesn't let off any more smoke than a cigarette. That is the best comparision. I just stuck the punk on the windy downside window of my ground blind. Cleared a spot on the ground, (nothing but dirt) and stuck it in the ground, outside of the groundblind.

They are great windicator's....

In one blind I am 10 yards from my feeder and I will get deer between me and it at times. The deer would be very close to the punk, I wonder if they would scare off by seeing the smoking punk?

That is what I am hoping to find out.

If you get a chance, give Keith a call about some experiences with it. Great guy to talk to.

I have hunted 4 times last weekend with my clothes lightly smoked and I really think it works. Had 3 mature does and a fork horn 20yds down wind they smelled it but couldnt figure it out. Next hunt had 4 does down wind 30yds and next hunt had 3 does down wind 60yds. last hunt had 2 does go directly down wind all the rest were up wind. It didnt blow a single deer out of the area.

Yes I am still using them, and the results have been pretty much like yotekilla's.

Are you using them with other scent kill products or by themselves?

Are the deer curious to what it is and come in or just notice it and ignore it?

As far as I know my current scent elimination procedure is working and we have never been busted. Then again, there is no way to know that for sure.
