Default Buck fever, do you still get it?

I even get it with does, and to me there is no greater feeling in the world. The day I can't find some quarry to give me that heart pounding, hand shaking rush is the day I put down the bow, and lets just say that I don't every forsee me putting down my trusty stick and string.

Default Every once in a while!

I've been bowhunting for quite some time now, so I've almost over come the rush and been able to focus my attention on form and shot concentration instead of antlers and the like. I will say, that I stalk more animals on the ground now than I used to and find it totally exhillarating. Just 3 weeks ago I was flat out like a lizard drinkin', 40 yards from a grizzly in the middle of the tundra, but that is another story and another thread, but I was shaking like a leaf on a tree, just like I was a rookie again!

I still get a rush even if its a doe when I bow hunt but it has become more manageable the last couple of years. My heart rate still jumps through the roof and my hands shake a little but I can at least think about my form. I don't rifle hunt much at all anymore because I lost that feeling. I do hunt with a 44mag lever gun and a Super Black Hawk Hunter in same caliber and I get the rush with those.

I don't ever remember getting it when I hunted with my rifle, but kneeling in my blind with a buck 20 yards away, while he danced around for a couple of minutes before settling down was a real heart pounder! It felt like my heart was pounding in my head and seemed that everything around me could hear it...even after I composed my shot and let her fly! And that's another story...

Default Buck fever!!!

Man I got the disease. If I have an hour or 2 of daylight I will hit my stand or blind after work, and if a deer walks by I get a little nervous, excited, all pump up at the same time! I'll even hunt my yard at first light before work, if I take a deer I'll be calling in sick!

Man yeah, I don't know how else to put it, but I have to take a poo every time I get to the woods and I haven't even seen a deer yet. My stomach gets in knots and I can't take it. Then, when I see a deer, or hear one walking and I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that its a deer and not a squirrel, I shake something terrible. But, I must say, I do a much better job of getting it under control now than I did years ago, but once that arrow flies and I see it hit its mark, it starts all over again.

Thats why I fell in love with lumenoks. There is nothing in the world better than watching a lumenok hit its mark, then that adrenaline rush triples, I gotta sit down everytime so I don't fall out of the stand.

Yes I do, but not in a debilitating way anymore. I hope I never lose it completely.

I shot my first deer yesterday. Amazingly I didn't get any kind of fever or shakes. No excitement at all really. My son was with me in the blind and he got the fever bad and he was just watching me. He was shaking so bad I could see it and his voice was trembling. I think his emotional state took my mind off of it and kept me from getting it. I did get cold(er) and dry mouth after, I assume that must have been some adrenaline flowing thru the veins.

Now, my buck wasn't big, if freak nasty walks in front of me next time all bets are off!

I tend to get more shook up over does then bucks since I know I can shoot the does, but the buck has to be a certain size for me and usually most I see are smaller. However, with anything, once I make the decision to shoot, I get tore up whether it is a deer, turkey, hogs, squirrel, whatever, when that switch is turned on ther goes my adrenalin. Love that feeling and certainly hope it never goes away, cuz that would be the end of my hunting.

I get it, like Mark said I get it more over does then I do bucks. Most of the time if I see antlers that are big enough to warrant me shooting a buck I get so focused on everything else that I don't get effected until after the shot then I become a mobile earthquake.
