Default What's a legal shooter Buck where you hunt?

Hey gang. I've had a tough go of it this archery buck season which is now in hiatus after today (11/12/11) until after Christmas. My only encounter, on 11/11/11 just 10 yards away, was a 3 point on one side (2 on one beam + brow tine). However, where I hunt (Southwest PA), can't shoot a buck unless there are at least 3 points on one side including the mainbeam, brow tine doesn't count. Needless to say didn't fill my tag yet. Anyhow, what's a legal shooting buck where you hunt?? Can you shoot more than one??

Default Legal Bucks

I live in Texas, deer hunting heaven. The limit varies by counties but about half of the state has an 8 pt outside the ears, 13 inch rule plus spikes. The remainder has no size limit. There are 1, 2 and 4 buck counties and you can shoot does as well. There are managed lands ranches that have a 2 months longer season and no deer tags required. A biologist dictates how many does and bucks will be killed and any hunter can shoot as many as the rancher says he can in any time frame from Oct 1 to Jan 31. Button bucks are legal as long as they have no spots. Does are managed to the point you often see more bucks than does on a hunt. High fences and breeding programs are legal so many ranches have a 6.5 yr old minimum on trophy bucks and 4.5 min on culls. It is illegal for a rancher to bring in genetics from outside the state.

Indiana used to b a 2 buck state in hte late 90's. Now its one buck anything counts. Most northern counties are 8 doe counties.

From the Oklahoma wildlife department. Since does occasionally grow horns your "Buck" may be a shemale.

Antlered Deer Definition

Any deer, regardless of sex, with at least three inches of antler length above the natural hairline on either side.

I can shoot unlimited does as long as I buy tags. But I'm not exactly hunting big open fields with herds of does rolling through.

They must be over run with deer in PA if you have no limit!

With a bag limit of 6 with no more than 2 antlered deer.....

Anything below the 3 inches, would be considered a doe....

Yea, the does are eating up everything in site, overrunning housing plans. The have learned to habitate very well in urban settings. They sell somewhere around 70,000 doe tags in SW PA (Pittsburgh Area), and over 100,000 in SE PA (Philadelphia Area). So you can buy all the tags you want. I don't remember them ever selling out in those areas.

Sorry to dispute Dan, but the spread limit on bucks at a minimum of 13" inside is only in some counties in East Texas, not half the state and the rule is I believe 13" inside with at least one branched antler. The remainder of the state, which is a majority of TX is from a one buck, 2 doe counties up to a 5 deer limit with no more than 3 bucks. The MLD properties are allowed to taek whatever they want in an extended season if they have the right permits and paperwork. The MLD permits are used as a management tool for ranches that may have too many deer or just wanting to get their buck to doe ratio in check and to take out some culls or the huge high fenced ranches that have limited #'s of hunters. Where I am at it is a 1 buck, 2 doe county but we are fortunate in the fact that our lease is split by a conty line so we are located in 2 counties which allows us to legally kill 2 bucks if we are in the opposite county when we harvest our 2nd buck. Lets us manage a little on our place.
