Default What kind of Fletchings do you use?

Guys

I want to know what kind of fletching yall use. I am getting some new arrows and was thinking of going with helical blazer vanes. Does anyone use these, what are the advantages/disadvantages.

Thanks

Blazers with a right helical...can't think of any disadvantages.

2" Blazers, set helical right, 3" Norway Fusions and the standard 3" vanes offset right, that Beman uses. Now that I have my QAD Ultra Rest HDX they all work great!

I used to shoot a 4 inch feather a few years back.I shot the full size quick spins for awhile really liked these rotated the arrow more stabilized large fixed blade broad heads.I switched to 2inch blazers with great results on the smaller fixed blade broad heads or open on impacts. I want to try the mini quick spin vanes again but haven't because the blazers are cheaper.

Posted this before. Its more than what you are asking, but just something that might help you out.

I personally feel that it is dependent on the setup and it varies from bow to bow. First things first, everything on the bow itself must by in sync. Next you need to determine what style of rest you are using. A full containment rest such as a Whisker Biscuit or an Octane Hostage or Hostage Pro is not going to be very nice to helical or extreme offset, really with the Whisker Biscuit, anything more than three degrees you start to see some flaws. If you are using a drop away, you may find it hard to tune, especially with some of the longer fletchings as the tip of the fletching may reach the rest before it has been fully deployed. Also, some drop aways show signs of wear within the prongs with both fletchings like blazers or fusions, or some of the shorter Gateway fletchings and the same is true for the longer fletchings, especially 4 inch fletchings.

Now you have to determine your total arrow weight. Most 2,3,or 4 blade fixed broadheads out of a speed bow, will generally require one of two things if not both: 1) more arrow weight, 2) larger, longer fletchings, usually 3 or 4 inches. Very rarely does the speed have great effect on the flight of mechanicals.

If you are going to shoot shorter, high profile fletchings with fixed broadheads out of a speed bow, you will more than likely have to increase the weight of the arrow as a whole. This means increasing front of center as well as taking a greater impact in the speed of your arrow. However, the heavier arrow generally stabilizes better out of the bow and faster than most lighter arrows and it also equates to an increase in Kinetic energy due to the increased weight of the arrow and the energy absorbed by the string. Depending on your draw length, you may also have to increase the spine of of the arrow due to the effects of an increase in weight at the tip of the arrow. There are two forces applied when an arrow is released. One is the string pressing forward in the nock to propel the arrow forward and the other is the tip of the arrow trying to press back in the direction of the nock. If the spine is off, it causes enough problems with a field point, just imagine its effects on a broadhead that is also planing.

A few other points to remember, with a 2 blade broadhead, planing is even greater due to the usual increased surface area. Without a sufficiently weighted arrow and enough surface area/right combination of fletchings to stabilize the arrow, unless you are lobbing grenades for arrows, its gonna plane on you. Hope this helps a bit

Not a problem. Always willing to help out anyone, especially a fellow hunter. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I am no expert, but I have quite a bit of experience through trial and error...Lots of trial, lots more error. I experiment a lot shall we say, and then somewhere, the laws of physics and gravity, especially as they pertain to flight come into play. If I cannot help, I will gladly point you in the direction of someone who can. Best of luck to you!

I am shooting Blazers and Fusions with right helical out of my SR71 and Omen Pro. Both have Code Red rests. No problems at all.

Wow, lot of blazer guys....

I like either 5" shield cut feathers with 2 degree offset or 4" regular cut feathers with 2 degree offset. Flies true in the wind or rain with large or small broad heads.
