Default To mount or not to mount?

I have never been a person that really likes hanging dead animals on my wall. I hunt for the challenge and the meat. How about you?

Dec. 3, 2011 I got a pretty nice Mule Deer buck and my friend is getting it mounted; I told him he could have it. He was with me when I shot it, so he did everything but stick the arrow in it...I have mixed feelings about it, as it is a pretty nice buck.

Here's a photo of my buck:

I wouldn't have room for a large head to mount. How about a skull mount? Looks kind of cool and you can keep the antlers that way. Probably save a good bid of cash too.

It's at the taxidermy now and will be European mounted...my friend paid for it and will add it to his collection. He's going to hang it in my office at work for awhile, I guess. At least I'll see it every time I go to his place! I'd rather just have all the photos, I guess.

I am on the other end of the spectrum. Pictures will not suffice for me. I do not have deer hanging everywhere, but there are some that pictures and skulls just don't seem right for me.

I've never seen anything wrong with the animal mounts and matter of fact I would love some myself. I know if this bear hunt goes through next april I will have some sort of mount to remember it if I get lucky enough to take the animal. I just feel like if a picture says a thousand words, a mount writes a book.

There's nothing wrong with them. I'm a meat hunter also, but that doesn't mean that you can't have trophies on the wall. It all depends on how you feel about it though.

There is not anyone that is going to take one of my animals and mount it and put it in his house. Just my feelings. I will have close to 50 when my animals from RSA and the taxi get her early next year. I too love the meat of the animasl I shoot, but also love displaying them in my home. To me this honors the animals i killed.

I would have had him mounted for myself, but there is no way I would give one of my trophies to someone else to mount and hang at home. Really I don't even know why someone would want another hunters trophy hanging in their house. I could understand picking up a big roadkill buck, but not something someone else killed.

Well OK most of you are funding your local taxidermists! Nothing wrong with that if you have the money. My deer mount will be hung in my office at work and I suppose if I grow fond of it I can pay my friend back. I kinda doubt it though! If I shot a world record buck, I'd give it to somebody to display. That's just me.

Diamondrock, I can understand where you are coming from. I have a friend that wants a bobcat mount so bad he would mount one I shoot. But I couldnt do that myself. But next month I am taking him out to my best cat spot because I know he would love the mount even more if he shot it and would have the memories to go with it, plus I will still be helping him out because I will be calling it in for him. Might even bring the video cam and see if i can get it on video that would be the best.

Yeah...it's kinda the same with my friend. He's a bow hunter and a damn good shot out to 80 yards, but he hasn't harvested any deer yet, let alone a nice buck like the one I brought down. He was right behind me when I shot it...for him it's bitter sweet. He's single and doesn't mind forking out the cash either.

Neyote...a video of my stalk would have been awesome, started my stalk at 120 yards out...after the five hours it took for us to get in behind him, right up to 15 yards and waiting for that big old buck to stand up! When he stood up I was a full draw, composing my shot!
