I don't know what else to do. im thinking of trying public land but I don't knoq of any closer than 3-4 hrs away. and with a 7 mo old thats even harder! I need a damn canoe!

Set lines for catfish and when you get 'em in the boat beat the hell out of them with a hammer. Always makes me feel good inside.

I feel ya brother. Have been flooded out several times this year on the homestead. I have used a canoe many times to get to some islands in a WMA close to where I was raised. I took my best ML and bow buck ever using that old canoe.

I've had similar experiences trying to find places to hunt. It's tough. Found a half decent one this year and as I was exiting a few weeks a go, a survey team shows up, it's for sale!!! I've been chased out of small pockets of woods by yuppies, etc.... Public land nearby is overrun with hunters. I'm just going to starting picking them off in the back yard as they nibble at my wife's garden....

lol, beatin down some ole channel cats sounds like a plan.I should just c about a canoe. you think id need a boat license?
in all reality, I should just start knocking on doors. people are usually in givin moods this time of year.... maybe I can find a willing land-owner.... plus most guys have given up or tagged out... I'm trying to stay positive guys! but after the great year I was having to suddenly stop like this... its hard! lol |

We are the exact opposite of you. Terrible drought this past year and this year. We are experiencing a 100 year drought here in TX and they are saying this could last another 10 years. Terrible conditions. Millions af acres burned, several thousnad homes lost along with lives, livestock and wildlife. Not sure which is worse, too much water on none at all. Sorry for your frustrations.

Here in Nevada we haven't had any precip since early November...we have a whole public land as far as the eye can see, but you have to draw a tag to hunt any certain area.

I use to hunt the swampiest flooded areas because of too many hunters.......can you not use a pair of waders to access that area. I hate to say it but canoes aren't cheap these days, I'd pull a McGyver and build a make-shift one out of an innertube. Flooding sucks but it makes for a scent free entry and the deer are always easier to pattern, hate to sound like a "make lemonade out of lemons" but it might be your best bet. Good luck!

PLEW I think you are on to something. I met some guys that hike in a mile or 2 and then cross an elevated creek with chest waders just to get into an area where the other hunters won't go and can't get to easily from the other side of the creek. They've pulled a few nice Bucks out of that area over the years.
