PassingThrough - I used an Aftershock 100 grain Tremor, a mechanical head, made in the USA, that works awesomely! They are accurate, dependable and tough. The company that makes them kinda sucks though when it comes to customer service. I have e-mailed them 3 or 4 times with no response what so ever. Not a good way to build your business that is for sure. Here's the story:
December 3, 2011 - My First Bow Kill! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK here are a couple pics of the nice Muley that I got last Saturday! Here's how it all went down: I was up at 4:00 AM and out the door at 5:00 to meet a couple of friends for my archery deer hunt. It was 8 degrees out. We got into our intended area just as the sun was coming up. Nick and Johnny started scanning the area with their spotting scope and binoculars and right off the bat we had a couple of bucks headed our way; one was pretty big, too! We watched him disappear into the Sagebrush and Mountain Mahogany and then headed up the mountain to get on top. As we headed up we would stop and glass the areas around us; we spotted a small buck and a nice 5 x 4 across the way about a 1/4 mile away and watched them bed down. We decided to try and get around behind the larger buck and see if we could put the sneak on him. About five hours later and miles of climbing up and down the mountain, down through a ravine filled with huge boulders, then over to the next ridge, we were finally behind him and about 120 yards away. He was bedded down out in the open in Mountain Mahogany and other brush; you could just see the forks of his antlers sticking up. Nick and I started our stalk. The wind was blowing just enough to help muffle any sounds we made. We got in behind him at 28 yards and he was just laying there, moving his head back and forth slowly every once in awhile. We sat there and waited for about an hour, this was around 2:00PM I'd say...in another hour the sun would be setting behind the mountain and it would be getting bitter cold. I wanted NIck to toss a rock over his head, down and away from us, to maybe get him to stand up, but there were no rocks small enough to throw. So we decided to see if we could get a little closer and began moving very slowly and quietly down-wind from him...we were now within 20 yards! I moved closer and closer until I was standing 15 yards from him...he started getting nervous (probably caught my scent) and as he moved his head back and forth I got ready to draw my bow. He stood up, broadside to me and I was at full draw! I composed my shot and let my arrow fly... you could here the SMACK as the arrow found it's mark! The buck broke out and headed down the hill and stopped. He looked like he was going to fall over, then just bedded down. So we headed out and around to come in behind some large rocks, to see if I could get another shot. When we got down to him he was dead as a door nail, I had made a perfect double lung shot and I had my first Mule Deer with my bow! He's a very nice buck with a great set of antlers, check it out! I used Aftershock Tremor 100 grain mechanicals, which are as accurate or more accurate than my target tips and have worked flawlessly shot after shot. They sliced right through the ribs for a near complete pass-through.
