I have been a long time lurker and reader but I have a question that I can't answer by going through the archives. I ordered some Herbs Yellowstone and a strop. But I orderd a smooth strop and the Herb's requires a rough one. Any ideas of how to rough up m smooth strop so that it will take the Herbs. Or does anyone know a trick to make it hold onto the smooth leather. I can get it to stick a little but is has ridges of the Herbs and not a smooth even coat. Is there a file or some real rough sandpaper that will do the job. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you want to rough it up I would think that a palm sander with some 69 or less grit would do the job fairly easily and not get too carried away with removal.
I have been using the inside portions of old leather work boots. Since I wear the high top ones I usually get about a foot or so easily from each one. Course I usually end up with one here and in the truck and in the country, basically everywhere I would need one except where I happen to be at the time. LOL
