I want to start off saying I know I will get a ton of different opinions, but just looking for other hunters experience's. I am going back to fixed blades this year after shooting rage. I have narrowed it down to G5 strikers, slick tricks, and good old thunder heads. My question to all of you is, in your experience/opinion is there anything about one of those broadheads that makes them better than the others? I have read a lot and just can't seem to make my mind up. Im hoping that someone might have something that will help make my decision easier.
BTW I shoot a bowtech allegence. 27" draw @ 62lbs. carbon axis arrows |

Welcome to BHT. Glad to have you here. Ive heard good things about all of these heads... I was just wondering what fixed blade you shot before rage, because that is what i would shoot if i had confidence in that head. Choosing a broadhead is kinda like choosing a lure for bass fishing. If you have confidence in that lure it will catch you fish. If you have confidence in a certain broadhead it will kill deer. Thats not to say you will catch them or kill them every time, but that is why its called fishing and hunting not catching and killing.

I dont remember what ones I had. I had them pretty much since I started hunting. My father had bought me a new bow and set up when I started hunting. Had that set up for close to 14 years. When I bought my new bow is when I switched to the rage and gave my old fixed blade to my nephew when he started hunting. He himself has switched to the rage. I had shot a couple deer with the rage. I was impressed with the wound it made but no matter what I did I could not get them to be consistant with where they hit. All the deer I shot with the rage I recovered but after much tracking. So I figured this year I am going back to fixed blade.

Personally I like thunderheads myself. That being said i never shoot the same broadheads two seasons ina row as im a guy that likes to try it all. Im just throuwing out other suggestions, rfa has awesome broadheads if you want ones that can be sharpened, the atom broadhead is also fantastic, chech your local laws though. Magnus buzzcuts are great. You really cant go wrong with anyone you pick. LOL. If you like a large hole of an expandable but the garuntee of a fixed blade check out the NAP bloodrunners. Don't be afraid to try new things sometimes the results are more than worth the chance.

Out of the 3 you listed, I have shot the Thunderheads and the Slick Tricks. Both exceptional heads. I believe that if you chose any of the 3 you would not be dissapointed. I am like dstom223, I rarely shoot the same head for more than a couple of years and try new heads that come out each year. I am going to be shooting the Smoke Ramcat this year again and it will be tough to find a head I like better. i am also going to try the new Wasp mechanical this year, but the Ramcat will be my primary go to head.

I agree with mudslinger as well. I like to change broad heads often. I also agree that you can't really go wrong with the list you have to choose from. That being said, check out the RamCat's and the Radians as well. These are two relatively new broad heads that look very promising.

I've only shot the Tricks and Thunderheads with fine results both will bless ya with a mighty fine blood trail when you do your part and make a good shot. Have not heard a bad word about the G5. Get some and knock a hole in something and show us.
