I just purchased a McKenzie Shot Blocker Crossbow Broadhead target today. It was on sale so I grabbed it for $60. Anyhow, it does stop the Horton Lightning Strike aluminum crossbow bolt travelling at 330fps, with a broadhead on the tip. HOWEVER, it is not an easy task to pull the bolt back out. The larger broadheads (3 blade) pulled out fine. With the others, I pulled so hard that the insert came out of the bolt and lost a 2 blade fixed broadhead and field tip inside the foam target. I sprayed a silicone lubricant down the shaft of the bolt into the foam target, and that eventually lubed it up enough to pull out the bolt, but I lost 2 inserts, a broadhead, and a field tip.
Anybody have similar problems, or solutions? Any insight? I only have one functioning bolt left for hunting this weekend (But one is all I need). |

Run ur bolts across a bar of soap before you shoot them. I dont know what to tell ya about the target. I ususally use fletchtight on inserts.

Broadhead was double bevel traditional Magnus
Real sharp. Foam target just grabs it so tight that insert glue failed leaving insert and broadhead behind. Looking for some super epoxy to permanently glue inserts. |

usually bi-component epoxy glue works very good....
I have the double level magnus, vented type, they aren't sharpened on the back. I was thinking that if u will sharpen them also on the back of the mail blade you could pull it out a bit easier than the normal blade just try with one blade... |

The Standard type of Gorilla glue works as well as anything on the market. Just be sure to wet the shaft and insert first.

OK, thought I'd fill everyone in for future reference. I glued new inserts in using a 2 part epoxy that you mix together then apply and let sit over night. Then I re-tested with broadhead shots into the MacKenzie Shot Blocker Broadhead Crossbow Target. But first I coated the broadhead and about 1/3 of the bolt with an Armour All type product (generic brand that I had in the garage). Fired a few bolts into the target. The target stopped the bolts with the broadhead exposed on the backside, therefore I unscrewed the broadhead, and then was able to more easily pull the bolt out. Apparently, the armour all causes the bolt to penetrate deeper, but also pull out more easily. No bolt/broadhead/insert casualties. Thanks for the input.

Another lube is Jig-A-Loo. Comes in a spray can and available at your local Wally World. Suggest you don't pull the broadhead back through the target. CAREFULLY unscrew the broadhead from the crossbow arrow and then pull through. With lube and no head it should come out fairly easily. Also contributes to longer target life.
