It is interesting that you were disappointed with the the tips of your Thunderheads bending contacting the ground/bone. Now you are going to a very expensive VAP arrows that are known to bend the outserts with hard contact or use in bag targets. This seems to be trading one problem for a more expensive one?

I am not sure this is the best move to make. Changing broadheads is one thing. Changing arrows to a small diameter arrow is another. Sure, it assists in getting a pass through, but I would turn to weight more-so than arrow diameter. The outserts for these arrows are not nearly as durable as carbon arrows with inserts. If you want an arrow that penetrates with a smaller diameter but does not require outserts, look at the Easton Axis FMJ. Very expensive as well, and to be honest, they dent extremely easy due to having carbon fiber wrapped in aluminum. But, they will hold up to targets and I do believe that you will get the pass through that you are looking for. But, you will be best suited to shoot these with a fixed blade head.

Well, I thank you all for all the help and sharing of opinion's.
I will mainly shoot the VAP in hunting. I already shoot Axis, just not the FMJ. I'll take a look and consider it. For now, the VAP's are bought so I'll try them! |

I am shooting 60 pounds, 26" draw and am getting my arrows through both sides (on Pronghorn Antleope and Mule Deer), but not quite enough oomph to exit. Still a double lung shot will drop them in a very short distance. Your set up should have no problems getting complete pass throughs on most game, depending on where you hit them, of course!

Whoa, I would stay completely away from any type of aluminum arrows, they bend, dent and break far to easily. I shoot the pretty cheap Beman Carbon Bowhunter arrows, have 20/400 vision and have no problem hitting my intended target (consistantly)all the way out to 60 yards. I have shot my Beman arrowss literally thousands of times and they are still in great shape.
With your set-up (I wish I could pull 70 pounds!) you shouldn't be nearly as concerned with buying expensive arrows as you should be working on shot placement. How can you be confident hunting if you do not practice with the arrows that you'll be hunting with? Many guys like to use exactly what they'll be hunting with, right down to practicing wearing the same clothes that they'll be hunting in. I shoot the same arrows that I'll be hunting with and I also make sure that whatever I'll be wearing to hunt in doesn't mess with my shot. Good luck with your new arrows, though.

my shoot placement isn't that bad, and I don't shoot at an animal if I'm not 100% confident. I also bought the VAP because I was curious. |
