I prefer replacement blades as well and I want a BH that tough and has the best potential for total pass thrus. No exit hole really hurts the blood trail. I've had the best luck with lately with the Grim Reaper Hades.

I want a head to be sharp and tough!I can only use fixed blade heads out here so i need them to be tuneable and consistant!I dont want to guess witch head is the right one when the shot presents itself.I want to be able to replace the blades in the field if need be.Long elk trips sometimes or a miss and small quiver i want to fix the head now!

Speaking of such......Wabowman brought up a good point. How many of you bring extra blades or a sharpener into the field?

Most of the time I don't bring extra blades or a sharpener to the field....I usually have that done before I go out

Right now the BH I shoot are'nt replaceable....I like carrying as many arrows in my quiver as I can....

But tomorrow is a different day and my set up is ALWAYS subject to change..

Don't bring extra blades but I always have at least 3 spare broadheads in my pack. (2 blades take up less space in the pack)

Have a consistent weight in reference to advertised weight; constructed properly with high quality standards; spin true when arrow is built properly. Otherwise, most broadheads will fly like field tips, if you're setup is correct!

Most of my deer hunts are remote area, and usually 3 to 5 days, so I carry a sharpener, and extra gear.

I use a hard plastic box, ( made for flies ) that I got from a local sporting goods store, for my broadheads. Holds a dozen 2 blades, and stores easily in my backpack.

I carry the same thing. Most of the time I am behind the camera so I am packing for the hunter. I carry a small bow box with extra nocks, broadheads, blades, allen wrenches, wax, mole skin, anything I may need to do an in the field fix.

When I am hunting close to home normally I just take a full quiver, a knife, a sharpening tool of some sort, and my bow, or in some cases my Encore Endeavor. I like to be prepared, but when you are 3 min from home its easy to make a phone call, and whatever you needed is right there quick. If I am going on a trip, or further away from home I take everything that I could possibly need if in fact something out of the ordinary does happen.

For me it's got to be: flies like my FPs do, leaves a great bloodtrail, quiet in flight, sharp, and maintains that sharpness well. If it can be sharpened, that's just a plus.

LoL....

Thats an easy answer....

Everything Slick Tricks does for me....

Very sharp out of the packet, very easy to get the scary sharp.

Small broad head but with the 4 blades it create a wicket hole.

Good blood trail... Hmmm.... I believe its difficult to judge a broad head's performance because of little blood. I have and cases where I shot an Impala ram quartering away. The intestines stopped blood at the entrance and the exit was relatively high. (I was shooting from a pit blind) and this ram ran off with no blood trail... I found him down at 60 yards...

Very important for me is that a broad head must be able to bust bone be it rib or shoulder bone and still keep together. I understand blades will bend or brake under stress but the broad head ferrule needs to stay straight...

I guess thats why I have been shooting Slick Tricks for the last 4 years as they provide everything I expect out of a broad head...

Good points Gerhard.
Blood trails are sometimes sparse through no fault of the broadhead. Fat, organs and hair often impede blood flow.
I plan on revisiting Slick Tricks based on your faith in them. If they are tough enough for African game, they will do well on most NA animals.

Chuck,

I have a lot of guys on our local South African Bow Hunting forum that now also use Slick Tricks with a lot of success.

I do not think you will be disappointed.

Gerhard you really like those Slick Tricks. Glad to see you are loyal to your equipment. I really like Slicks Tricks, and the design. I'm going to have take some out on a doe managment hunt here soon.
