Default What is expected of a broadhead?

Should it fly just like a field point?
Should it have pin-point accuracy?
Should it have gapping wound channels?
How big does the cutting diameter have to be?

Etc...etc...etc...

IMOP I just like to see them fly true...Whether I have to do a little tunning, or if they fly like my field points. If it is a mechanical it opens on what I am aiming at, and not in flight. I like to see them easy to sharpen.

This is just a little of what I have to say...Now what are your opinions?

I expect different things from different heads kinda like you. Fixed blades I want a head that does not plane and is quiet in flight and also easy to sharpen. Mech's I want no deflection, ease of opening and I prefer rear deployment.

Any head that was ever made can fly true and hit with field tips just as long as it is straight. Outside of that it's just tuning and setup.

Above anyting else I'm after it to hold its edge.

I expect a broadhead to cut cleanly (be sharp), penetrate deep, hold together.

I prefer replaceable blades because I cant sharpen crap! I always role the edge over and my father in law has to fix it........... Its really sad.......... just somehting i never got the knack for, or never had good stones to use....

I like a short head that can withstand hitting large bones and for ease of tuning. For me it must have 3 blades that lock into the head solid dose not matter how. A loose blade is more prone to breaking and bending. And the blades must be of good quality steel for a razor edge.I dont look at what it will do when I put it thru the lungs. I look at what it will do when I make a bad shot because it will happen I want it to bust bone and still cut arteries!

All of that, and just a little bit more.

On a fixed head I want it scary sharp, but it needs to be able to maintain that edge through the animal. On a through the boiler room passthrough I like for it to be almost as sharp when it exits as when it went in. It needs to be tough enough to do the job even when I fail to put it where it was designed to go, I don't wanna have to pick pieces of it out of the wound channel. It needs a tough ferrel cause I want to shoot it more than once and I want it to spin true every shot, not just the first time I screw it on from the package.

On a mechanical I want the same thing, but easy to replace blades and a serious cutting width

Amen...You shouldn't have to throw any broadhead away after use. The companies that make broadheads for one time use are the companies that don't care about anything, but to keep you spending money. The companies that focus on durability and performance those are the ones that are going to be around a while!

First, a broadhead must be consistent. I do not expect it to fly with my field tips. Second, a broadhead must be made of a soft, but strong steel(especially fixed blades, or single piece fixed blades). This allows easy sharpening and re-sharpening, offering the best opportunity for a quick, clean kill. This is all I can ask of a broadhead, the rest is up to me.

I want it to be accurate, sharp, & leave a good bloodtrail. Cutting dia. don't mean much to me as long it is sharp & goes where i want it to, the deer are going to die.
