Hey everybody! I have some standard 125gr 1 3/8 razortips that I plan to use this deer season and am going to do some hunting with a crossbow this year. Will the standard reapers do ok with my crossbow, as far as not deploying in flight, and so forth. The ones I have are not the crossbow designated ones, just the originals. Thank you.

The standard 1 3/8 heads have worked great out of cross bows for years. If you will tell me what crossbow you are shooting and at what speed i will be able to let you know for sure if you need to be concerned about premature blade deployment. If you are shooting under 350 fps and using a new head it should be no problem..

Can I shoot the standard 100gr 1 3/8" Razortip out of my Scorpyd at 360fps?
I should add that I already have and killed a Speedgoat doe @ 65yds. Did not hit exactly where I was aiming, could have been me or did the blades possibly open in flight?

To be honest, if a blade came open at 360 fps and 65 yards you would most likeley not hit an antelope at all so i am guessing a blade did not come open but it is possible. The satandard 1 3/8 cut heads have always worked great out of crossbows as long as they are brand new heads or rebuilt heads. If the heads have been shot at all then you do run the risk of blades comming open at that speed. This being said, i would recomend at 360 fps you shoot our x-bow head. The xbow head is virtually the same head with a slightly heavier spring giving you a little more blade tentions to insure that you have no problems at high speed. We have tested the x-bow heads at well over 400 fps with perfect results! |
