Default 1 3/8" Bone Busting Ability??

I'm getting 80 lbs KE out of my Monster MR6 and just wanted to see if the 1 3/8" could bust through bone out of my set up.

Not much goes through that much bone, especially a 3 blade. My guess would be not even close, but I have been wrong before.

How much bone are we talking? Deer shoulder? If so, sure. You may not always get a full pass through, but it will bust bone. Those tips are harder than woodpecker lips.

I'm talking about a deer's shoulder.

Then you should be fine. I am no engineer, but the tip design and hardness along with the KE, will bust the shoulder as good as most any fixed blade broadhead. The majority of the time, it seems that the broadheads impact the opposite shoulder, and although exit is good for blood trails, it is not necessary.

In that case my guess is 50/50. Maybe 60/40 it makes it.

I am not sure the average, but I would suspect that its pretty darn close. I am confident(I would be confident) that you would get at least an exit wound the majority of the time. I would use it.

I will even throw this in. I shoot varying arrow weights for deer from 390 to 450 grains. With my 390 grain arrow, I am getting 84 KE. With the 450 I am around 93 KE. I have yet to NOT have an arrow pass through with Grim Reapers, let alone Slick Trick Magnums, Grizz Tricks, Magnus Stingers, Buzzcuts, NAP Hellrazors, Rage 2 and 3 blades, Smoke's...The only one I have not had a pass through with was a Muzzy 4 blade, and that happened twice. Got minimal penetration and lost both deer.

If your talking the shoulder blade you should be able to bust through that no problem. If you hit the shoulder joint/knuckle nothing besides a bullet will handle that.

Cool...just wondering and obviously I would never aim for the shoulder. My friend and I are in a debate whether the fact I draw 70 lbs with a Monster MR6 and shoot a 430 grain arrow if that is overkill for whitetail. Yes it is more than adequate, but on a marginal hit that is where the additional KE might help.

Overkill...Maybe, I wouldn't consider it overkill. Its more than sufficient. But we aren't talking bullets here. The impact and mechanism for killing is completely different. THere is only one degree of dead.

I have not shot GR yet but I have a few on the way. Check this out.

The man on the video says any bow 50lbs or more should be able to penetrate a deer shoulder blade. In this test it is a 65lb bow will it blow through both shoulder blades? Lets find out.

http://youtu.be/RNi5y6KFutc

Every situations is different but I think you would be safe with a 70lb M6.

I shoot the Athens 32 63 pounds 29 inch draw 374 gr arrow with the 1 3/8 Grim Reaper.

I shot a deer that looking straight up came in left eye out back of head then it went through its back and out the gut area just in front of the back leg.

Deer 2 was quartering away severely came in thigh busting thigh bone through liver both lung and stuck in off set should at 22 yards.

Deer 3 was slight quartering away one or two steps came in back of closest shoulder right on the edge of it through both lungs out other shoulder on far side.

Shooting about 100 KE out of my crossbow, blew through both shoulders on a doe with 2" Grim Reaper Whitetail Special. Got the deer. Destroyed the broadhead though.
