Default Grim Reaper Sharpness

Hi all, I just purchased some of these in 100 grn 1 3/8 inch cut. They dont feel super sharp to me. Is this normal? I have heard to many good things about them so I know they have to be sharp. Is it the blade design? I saw my friend shoot a whitetail doe with one and WOW did she bleed and dropped in about 30 yards. I have a cool whitetail and antelope hunt coming up this fall. What do you guys think?

Great head. Excellent customer service. Made in the USA! Put the Grim Reaper on the game and you will not be disappointed.

Well I killed 12 deer with them this year had great blood trails on most of them. The ones that didnt was because the arrow came out gut area and left gut plugging hole. If you have any problems get ahold of the grim reaper rep on here he will take care of you.

I bought a pack last year but didn't get to put anything down with them and thought the same thing, they don't feel very sharp out of the pkg. They fly like darts though and they have POI of both my FPs and ST Mags out to 40 yds. I even shot one yesterday with only two blades (one broken) and it flew as well as a good head. Concerned about their sharpness myself but to many folks praise them so they are on the arrows for spring turkey. We shall see, lol.

I actually bought a couple packs last year and was going to use them come hell or high water. But I have used Muzzys on elk, whitetail, mulies and antelope and used them again because of sharpness concerns with the GR's. I let my friend use them and watched as he made an OK shot on a high strung whitetail doe and oh my.....

But when I questioned the sharpness to a factory rep, his response was send them to me I will check them out and replace them. He was 4 star in my book. I never sent them in after my friend shot the doe, I am sure I am over thinking again. But I will be using them this year on a whitetail and antelope. I have to, my wife seen me buy the 4 packs and you married gus know how that is.

You will not be disappointed! I put the 2" Grim Reapers through both shoulders on a medium sized doe. Destroyed the broadhead, but got the desired result. Shoots like a dart, hits like a truck!

Awesome broadhead. I missed a deer with one and it struck deep into the dirt. It would still shave but not like before so I hit it on my Lansky and better than ever. I did make one kill with one this year and dropped in 40 yards! Tim

I apologize for being so slow to answer this post, i have been on the road the past several weeks with trade shows. Regarding the sharpness of our blades. It is really very rare that we get a complaint about our sharpness. Finding the perfect combo between sharpness and toughness is a very fine line. We have done a lot of testing and research to make what we consider the most effective mechanical blade on the market. We could make a blade edge that "feels sharper" but this would require sharpening them at flatter angle, this would make the blade extremely sharp to the touch but the edge would curl opon impact of anything hard such as bone. Without giving away trade secrets, the degree we sharpen our blades at now in our opinion is the most optimal combination of sharpness and durabiltiy of the blade edge to maximize penetration and hemorraging. Hope this brief explanation helps. There has been plenty of testing and killing done to verify these results!

Thanks Grim Reaper,
I will use them, but I have been bowhunting since 1989 and the one thing I do know is scary sharp does good things. Your explination DOES help. I have already bought a dozen of them at my local archery shop. I just have a tendency to over analyze stuff you know. I am going on an awsome whitetail/antelope combo hunt this fall here in Montana, and I feel totally comfortable with mechanical heads. I have used NAP Shockwaves and shot a few mulies and whitetails with them. I primarily have Muzzy experience but like how these mechanicals fly. I am not sold on Rage at all but love how these Reapers look and work (and shoot!!). Based on the feedback I got with the question, I will be shooting your product. Thanks for the response. Art

No problem Art. We hope you have a great and succesful hunt in MT. If you still have concerns about the sharpness please feel free to send me the heads you are concerened about and i will personally inspect them. If i feel they should be sharper i will happily put new blades on them for you. I have full confidence that you won't be dissapointed when you shoot something! Happy hunting.

Thanks but from what you and others have said here, I think that is just how they are and since these were bought brand new from an archery shop I dont think I need to concern myself. If I had bought them on ebay or something maybe, but you explained it and I am going to use them. Besides I like to take a styrophome cup and stretch about a dozen rubber bands across the opening, then I push the broadhead through to see how it cuts. These reapers cut alot of rubber bands!! They will be just fine the way they are. Thanks again, your offer only builds my confidence.
