Hi Guys
For interest sake, what can an Ashby Head do what a Silverflame can't in terms of penetration, integrity, etc. I did read the Ashby research stuff but would like to know from fellow archers. thanks Dox |

I only have limited experience of 1 cow elk with a 125 grain Silver Flame. total arrow weight about 450 grains shot at about 280. 30 yard shot, cut a rib in half going in and buried in the dirt from tree stand. Elk ran about 40 yards, stopped and fell over (double lung)

Hey guys,
First, the Silver Flame is an awesome head. We consider it the best double bevel head going. That said, the answer is really in the Ashby reports. The Ashby's single bevel design and high mechanical advantage allows it to split bone that a Silver Flame would have to try to wedge through. Double bevel heads can make it thorough bone, but the shaft normally still gets pinched by the bone once the broadhead clears. Once a single bevel head splits the bone, and especaially if you have a full length tapered or very thin shaft following, then the arrow is not pinched by intact bone and as such the penetration potential is greatly increased. As a side note, Alaska Bowhunting Supply recently aquired the rights to the Silver Flame. That's the quick reply version todd

What I can say about the new Silverflame broadheads that are made in China, only that they are one extremely tough broadhead. I have been shooting the New ABS Silverflame XL and they have exceeded all of my expectations. I shoot a 85 lbs APA Black Mamba 7.5 with ABS Safari Grizzlystiks.
I practice shooting at a 48" X 48" sheet of 3/4" good one side plywood. I staple my target on it and let my arrows fly and after shooting over 25 shots and breaking through every time, that darn broadhead that is made in China keeps on ticking. The edge retainability is excellent and the head sustained no damage. And if you want to see something that will blow your mind away, wood chips flying everywhere, then put on the ABS Maasai broadhead. I have shot the 125/150 grain single bevel Maasai's that were also made in China and, again, the back of the 3/4 inch plywood was severly damaged with the broadhead going through everytime. Great job on the broadheads ABS

The Silver Flames sold by Alaskabowhunting are made in Korea with Japanese steel (I learned this from calling ABH) but they are also being made in Germany again under German-Kinetics and are available through "redneckpoint". Their website is in german but you can email them.
