Default Hate to Send Ya'll to Another Forum but....

We've got to start Homegrown off somehow! This is a great post from a guy on the Michigan Sportsman forum who rolls his own.

That was awesome. Wish I had the time to do something like that. Always wanted to get me a recurve. Maybe I will one day. Very useful Information

That guy is me. LOL I just joined this forum today after being contacted by the site owner. I am also a member of the American Broadhead collectors club. Here is a pic of my Son with some of our heads. I still need to make another case for more of the heads we have. We have about 300 unique heads ( and quite a few duplicates)

The case on the left is filled with the old school tapered (glue on) points and go back as far as a 1939 Roy Case head and as current as a new Wensel Woodsman. The case on the right is filled with screw on heads starting at about 1970 to current. I also bought Josh a membership to the American broadhead collecting club. I think he is their youngest member. He now wants to design and make his own broadhead that he will use with the new homemade longbow I made for him. A lot of these heads were donated by Bowhunters that helped Josh get the collection rolling.

Our oldest head is a 1939 Roy Case Korek.

Our most rare is a 1949 O.A. Norland

Some of the more unique heads in the collection.

An early expandable

I've been collecting since I started bowhunting 33 years ago. My favorite is the orignal Roy Case because he is the Father of WI Bowhunting (in my opinion) He is the one who coined the phrase "Bowhunter" Roy Was from WI and founded the Wisconsin Bowhunters assoc. WBH is the Nations largest and oldest State Bowhunting assoc. You can read more about Roy here.

http://www.bowhuntershalloffame.com/...roy/index.html

Here is a bit about the buck Roy took in 1931. He was the first to do it. (non_native)

http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/wnrmag/ht...96/bowhunt.htm

I am on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Bowhunters association and Last year I dedicated my hunt to trying my best to do a vintage Roy Case type hunt my making my own bow and arrows and broadheads. I also made my own leather and camo and treestands (even though treestands were not legal back then but are today) Back then there was no Cabelas or Gander so if you wanted it, you had to make it yourself or know somebody that could.

He is a pic of the 1939 Case Korek We have in our collection. We have 2 of them.

These are the latest ones I made. I havested a buck with them in 2008.
They are similar to the heads I have made in prior years only these are a bit longer to give a better aspect ratio ( 2.6 : 1 ) and have the added weight I was looking for to be used with my longbow . They are just under 1 inch wide with a blade thickness of .039. The blades are single bevel. They are made the same way as prior heads where the blades are pinned to the ferrule.

Beautiful!! I'll be sure and save my next broken band saw blade. I have to try this out. What did you use to make the trench in the aluminum block jig?

Any suggestions for some one who doesn't have a milling machine. How was it done in the past?

What beautiful craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing your knowledge w/ us. One of these days, when I become more proficient w/ my traditional equipment, I want to do this myself. Great job!

This is amazing. You have to have respect for anyone who shoots equipment that they have made with their own hands. Awsome man!! It just has to be so much more rewarding to shoot your own homemade equipment and definitely more rewarding when it works and you are able to harvest an animal with that equipment!

Andy,

That fellow should be in business for himself.
What about those single bevels?
Woof!

Thanks,
