I think it's great that you were able to harvest some critters with your own heads.

Very unique looking heads. I don't collect and don't really have a desire to do so, but I still like to look at the old head and their designs. Thanks for sharing.

These are some I've done.
The far left is saw blade, hand cut and shaped. The ferrule is brass tube that I've beat into the shape I want and the the blade is soldered into the ferrule.
The next is similar except the ferrule is a brass field point that I placed in a drill and ground the shoulder down. The head on the right is a modified. The blade is from an Arrowmate and the ferrule is a Sweetland that was used for the Parker Timberwolf heads.
The brown head is a three blade CatClaw. I used Catclaw blades and ferrule but three blades rather than two and they are set on the side of the ferrule like the original Catclaw. It is the about same size as a 160gr Snuffer and weighs about 200gr.

To make sure they spin true. I have been wondering how to make sure they were aligned and balanced so they would spin correctly if I make a set out of that blade I have.

I just eyeball them. If you get the blade tip out of line from the ferrule tip you can regrind. The hardest is to get the ferrule slot perpendicular. Remember......this is a homemade/handmade broadhead, it's not made by a CNC or laser cut. This is a functioning broadhead not an "X" cutter!
I never took mine hunting, they were a learning exercise.

AAhhhh....so just change the grind. Makes total sense. I have been thinking of jigs and everything else. I think I will just make the head a little bigger all the way around and then grind the finished shape to spin correctly. Thanks Raghorn!

Hey Booner, if you've got a belt sander it's fairly simple to make a grinding jig that will get you the same angle on both sides of the ferrule. The trick is to make the slot in the ferrule perpendicular to the shaft. I've got a jig for this as well. I like jigs. If you've got a Dremel Tool you can buy a router base for it for $30 or so. That base can be used to make a jig with a tip that will cut a slot in your adapter that is perpendicular. I've made all of my homemade heads with glue-on tips, but I'm sure it would work with a screw in adapter as well.

I have the router adapter for my Dremmel. Post a pic of how you are talking about doing it if you don't mind. Thanks!!

I'll see if I can't get into the shop this evening and take some pics of jigs that help with broadhead making.
