Default Anyone can make a workable broadhead

I just joined this forumn at the suggestion of someone from over at Archerytalk. I posted some of my homemade stuff there and got a sort of cold reception from the "store bought only crowd." I like making my own stuff that works. It doesn't have to look good to work great. I wanted homemade broadheads that provided exception cutting diameter and radically increased my FOC and my K.E. at the same time. I took five deer this season and 3 of them were harvested with homemade broadheads. None ran more than 40 yards because they hemoraged so fast. All performed above expectation and better than any factory head that I have used. When I have time, I will post a "how to make ugly but deadly broadheads that really work" post if you all are interested. Don't expect them to look pretty. But anyone can make one that will shoot accurately and perform very well.

What state are you in? Many states have "Barbed head" laws that would prohibit the heads you show. The head must be able to pull out (fall out) if the anuimal does not die from the shot.

I contacted our state game manager and asked him the "barbed broadhead question" He replied that as long as a broadhead meets the cutting diameter requirement (7/16), it can be barbed. I too was told by others that they thought it was illegal in NE but not according to NE Game and Parks. I carry the letter from the state game manager with my license.

Handy work there man. I am not certain that I would be able to make it work, but I might give it a shot

That's pretty cool. Me personally, I would never build one for 2 reasons... 1) no time, and 2) I'd probably mess it up. So, I'll stay with the store bought ones. But since you can make it work... awesome job!

Nice builds!! You won't get the same reaction here as you do in other forums. Much friendlier and more open minded people.

Wlxome to BHT and enjoy your stay!!

Nothing like crafting your own tools. What are you shooting them out of?

Welcome, I love looking at the home made stuff as well. Glad to see some inovative and creative people out there. Store bought don't mean nuthin but mass produced.
