I am no means a blacksmith, but I thought I'd try my hand at making some broadheads. I've always wanted to make some, so i got some scrap stainless steel about as thick as a nickel. I hand drew the designs, cut'em out with a bandsaw (which I found out i severely suck at), and been working on them with a dremel. I still got a long way to go. I plan on drilling cool-looking holes to reduce weight. The german kinectics looking one weights in at a heft 400 grains and the other one is around 200 grains. I would like to finish them out at 200 grains and 180 respectively. What to yall think? I need some input from the pros.

Not bad looking at all
I would add some lightening holes in them but leave the center as much in tact as possible to retain as much strength as possible.

Ok folks, so I've never been or claimed to be a machinist....
And so far, I've learned a ton in the past two days.1. I will not attempt to "free hand" broadhead patterns. I'll make a template first and actually use a scale. b2. I will drill holes in the broadheads before I cut the broadheads out. As you can see from the pics, my buddy (the machinists) messed the holes up, but it wasn't his fault. It was hard to keep them in the vice. I was able to cut the weight on the big head from 410 grains to 226 grains. I'm almost at my target weight. The other one got cut from 220 grains to 186. I won't mess that one anymore. My second batch is gonna be better, I hope... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The one on the right could give you flight problems as it's not true from the point through the tang. Or you won't be able to tell when it's mounted into the shaft straight.

Well done Blood Trail, keep at it mate, they will only get better, like you said, you've got nothing to loose, plenty of material and time is your own, so go for it. It's lots of fun and when you use them to the purpose they are built for, there's a great amount of satisfaction.
