Ok so I had been inspired by Archer on another website for his handy work on so much more than broadheads and decided to give this a try.It was something that I always wanted to try. I am a fixed blade fan but was never happy with everyone going to these micro-broadheads. I'm not saying they don't work...heck I shoot a Magnus Buzzcut and love them. They work don't get me wrong but I was thinking if I designed a head what it would look like. I wanted a little more cutting diameter. I have always loved the simmons treeshark but didn't want a 190gr. for my AXE 6. So This is what I came up with.
![]() Let me know what you think. Just shy of 1 3/4" wide cutting diameter 0.060" thick circular saw blade material. 140gr total weight. About 3 inches low at 40yds from my sighted in 100grs. Ferrule is a 100gr field point with some file work to lighten the load. It is also a replaceable blade if it needs sharpening or breaks...but I doubt it. Got a chance to put a doe down with it. Cut one rib on entry on a quartering away shot and blew through 2 ribs on the exit and buried about 8 inches into the ground. I will try to up load the pics but it is on my phone so I don't know how to go about that. CRAZY blood trail and didn't have to worry about it opening...lol. Believe it or not if flies like a dart out to about 40yds (that's all I have tested). I can say it is a learning experience. This is my 2nd attempt. The first was a sliver flame copy with a thinner blade. I'll try to get my 3rd attempt on for you expandable guys. Let me know what you think. Happy hunting! |

Yes I use a dremel for cutting out the profile and some of the interior work on this head. Took your advice and used the dremel for slotting the ferrule for the blade. I use files a lot as well. I have found that the small diamond jewelers files from harbor freight work very well for the price. All of mine are done using hand held power tools. And thank you for the compliment. I kind of doubt it because you make a great broadhead...but thanks anyway! You learn a little bit with each one and they are getting better.
Have any hints yourself with homemade? |
