Well after I was able to harvest a few deer with the COC broadhead I made earlier this year I got to thinking what about a mechanical. I will be the first to admit I am not a big expandable broadhead fan. I know they work. I'm not bashing them...actually I shot one deer with a mechanical a number of years ago. If it was not a huge cut I would have not recovered that deer because I hit a limb and it was a lot back.
I like the concept but don't like the small entrence holes of the over the top expandables. I was on the search for a broadhead that made a large entry hole and exit if it made a pass through. Yes, I know I can hear everyone screaming RAGE already and I started out making something like the rage or the shwacker but I came across something that couldn't prematurely deploy. This is what I came up with: The Super Gator ![]() Open: 2 1/4" wide Closed: 7/8" wide Blades: 0.038" thick Ferrule: Aluminum Tip: I borrowed the tocar tip from an old muzzy. Love the bone splitter. Weight: 100gr I'll be trying to hunt with this next week. What do you think? I thought it might not be enough of a blade angle but looks much like the original Rocky Mtn gator but slightly more angle I believe. If anyone wants a tutorial on this broadhead let me know. |
