Default New guy needing help

Hi every1, not only am I new to the site but I am new to Bowhunting as well, this is my first year with a bow.

I am shooting a hand me down late 80's early 90's Pearson Bow 31 in DL, set at 59lbs. My current arrow selection (came with the bow) are PSE Carbon Force 400's. I have been looking into purchasing new broadheads and am pretty much sold on the Buzzcuts. I currently am using 100gr (i think they are muzzy's, but not sure) The bow was set at 64lbs when I got it, but I had it dropped down to 59 to make it a little easier on me.

My ?? is should I stick with 100 gr. buzzcuts or move up or down.

Like I said Im new to bowhunting so alot of the talk ive read is foreign to me, and I'm not sure what to do. Everything I have came with the bow.

Your help would be greatly appreciated,

Joe

Welcme to the healthy addiction of archery and Broadheadtalk.com!!!

Now about broadheads. If you are currently shooting 100gr heads and shooting them well, then no need to change. The choices in 100 grain weight are practically endless. Buzzcuts ate wicked sweet with a warranty that is unequaled!

The first thing i would do is to make sure the bow fits you.The DL is the most important thing. Is it right for you? Second,If the DL is right the arrows are under spined for that set-up.You will need a 350 spine arrow to shoot broadheads accuratly and consistantly out of that set-up.

The dl is definitely too long for me I need a 28 or 29 dl, although I have been practicing with the bow and am able to hit Killzone 95% of the time. I think that the other 5% is due to not always having my form correct. Although I have been doing alot of work on getting that corrected.

The biggest problem with this bow is that, Ive been told by a friend that works at a local archery shop, that due to the cams on this bow and the age of the bow, Even with buying a new string Any shortening of the dl would be minimal if at all an potentially break the arms of the bow.

Im planning on buying a new bow at tax time since I am enjoying archery. Should I just use what I have for now and then change everything accordingly then??

I'll second the "Weak" spine comment. Which model bow is it? Most of the pearsons in that time frame had moduals, heck I probly have different moduals for it. They are made at a machining company in Crestview FL along with several other brands, so moduals are out there. CSS, Parker, Pearson and a couple other brands all took the same moduals for draw length. You might get lucky and not have to get a new bow yet.

I'd stick with the 100 for now and lets look at fixing the other stuff first.

And that would be awsome if we end up being able to do that. I could use that money to buy a good quality Climber instead

I would look for a pearson dealer that has been around for a while. They will most likely have some laying around. If you shorten the DL the arrows would be fine.

Okay Joe, lets get jiggy with it.

The Spoiler is adjustable from 26-31" via the use of mods. First and formost is you need to have your draw length measured as best as can be. then get back on here. We'll get ahold of pearson and get some mods on the way. Either they have them, I may actually have them and I also have a contact at the machining place that may still have them.

There should be two numbers or letters to look for. Look at the side opposite of the rest window of the bow on the cam. You will see the mod. It could have a letter or number on it, we need that. There could also be one on the main portion of the cam, if there is, we'll need that as well.

They are the same mod's CSS, Parker, Peason, Renegade and several others used, so we should be able to find you some and really the highest cost should be around 5-10 bucks. Free if I have them.

If you have a camera and a way to post pic's on the net just do that and we can take it from there.

Well I was wrong on that one! I completely forgot about the first model of the Spoiler and the one piece cam. No fear though, I'll do some calling on monday and see if I can't find a set of cam's.

I just spoke with Pearson. They don't have any but I'll check with some older shops I know and see if anybody has some cams.
